I have 4 children, all have been delivered in Brandon. I've have had bad experiences and outstandingly fantastic experiences. Your experience will really depend on the nurse you get. Majority of staff I've seen are great, some not so much, but that is the way it goes everywhere. I had the option to deliver at a different hospital with my 3rd and 4th babies, but I still stuck with Brandon , and glad I did! The ward is clean, and really nice single rooms, with a nice "kitchen" for moms. Doctors don't stay at the hospital during off hours, so that is a bit of a bummer if it happens you are delivering at night, as they get called in. The doctor didn't make it to 2 of my 4 births because my babies come fast and they didn't listen to me when I told them to call the doctor in, so a nurse delivered #2 and a midwife from a different room came and delivered #3 lol. I have seen every obgyn in Brandon here and they are all really awesome. Some have better bedside manner than others, but all do their jobs well. Congrats on your baby! You are in safe hands in Brandon!

My pre-natal and delivery care was great however my post natal care sucked. I had a c-section so was in there for 4 days. During that time hardly saw a nurse and because of that my baby’s weight dropped lower than it should so we had to change our feeding plan and had to stay an extra day. Housekeeping also sucked, my sheets were never changed and garbage was dumped for 2 days. My mom ended up changing my bedding. This may have been because it was a long weekend.

I have had all 5 of my babies here in Brandon, one with an obgyn and 4 with midwives. My midwife experiences were much better than my doctor one, but all were positive experiences  
 
Just make sure that if you need something you or your support person advocate for yourself. That's a general rule when in the hospital for anything.

I had my first in Brandon. Best experience ever. From the nurses, to the doctor, to the lactation consultants. I liked how they gave me space to bond after. I’d love to go there again, but we have moved and it’s just a bit too far!

I had all three of my boys at the Brandon hospital. As most here have said, not ALL nurses/doctors are great, but most are wonderful!  
Just wanted to add something regarding learning to breastfeed - if you have any difficulty at all, ask to speak with the lactation consultant, Susan. She is a great nurse and great at helping you and baby learn to breastfeed! Don't be shy!

I have delivered all three of my babies at the Brandon Hospital and I am always BLOWN away by the amazing nurses and doctors who helped me through the deliveries. My last one was a whopper and I don’t know how I could have done it without the support and encouragement from the nurses I had.  
 
However the third time there was a situation. The shifts changed and the new nurses told me they would come help me up to shower and get cleaned up within an hour and clean up the bed but no one came. I had to pee so bad so got up myself and a lady who spoke poor English helped me to the bathroom and wrapped my iv etc. So I could shower. When I came out the bed still hadn’t been cleaned from the delivery. Finally a couple hours later a nurse came in and gave me heck for getting up on my own. When I explained I had to she said there is no way a nurse helped me because they were all busy (turns out it was a cleaning lady who assisted me -_-). My last nurse right before I was allowed to go was not very friendly and seemed very uncomfortable with my baby. 98% of the Nurses and Doctors will be a gift (Thank goodness for them!) during this very exciting time.  
 
Take advantage of the sandwiches and snacks they have for the Mommas on the ward. I’m always so hungry after giving birth and they taste amazing lol.

As mentioned before, it depends on the nursing staff. For my first child, the head nurse was stern and insisted I keep my baby beside me every moment. This new responsibility, combined with hormones meant I did not sleep for three days until I left hospital.  
My last child, the head nurse was very matronly and insisted on taking her so I could nap. What a world of difference!  
As far as items, pack what you think you’ll need, but you probably won’t use it. They will provide all necessities. Have your car seat installed in advance.
