I would like to try and get my son into a licensed daycare centre, and was wondering how most people here found their spots. It would be a pre-school age spot (age 3) that I'm looking for. I am signed up on the Manitoba childcare registry website (and have been for quite sometime), but has anyone actually ever found their spot this way? Or have people had more luck contacting the centres directly? I'm specifically interested in the YMCA centres and possibly a couple others . Just looking to see what others' experiences have been with this! TIA!

I was fortunate enough to get into a spot using the registry. I had also been called by 2 other Centre's as well. I would recommended logging into the registry every few months if your not doing so already to keep your account active as I believe your name is taken off if you haven't logged on in a certain amount of time (I recall getting a letter in the mail about that).  
 
As for the YMCA Centre's, When I was looking, I had called them and was told that they only take names off of the registry when they can, but often, the siblings of kids already in the Centre get those spots so they don't often have spots for kids on the registry.  
 
I was told by another centre as well that they only take names on the registry and that I would need to sign up on the registry.  
 
I wouldn't soley rely on the registry though and you may have to use a private daycare until you are able to find a spot in a Centre.

Your best bet is to call each center and ask them about their wait lists. Some of them use the registry, some have year long wait lists, some want an email every month (to show you're still looking). I've talked to a couple that dont even check the online registry.
