Abandoned Child At Zellers Parking Lot- WTF?

Today (Saturday) at 2:30 PM we went to Zellers. As we pulled into a parking stall we noticed a boy about 7 years old sitting on the trunk of a car. He was watching the store entrance, and appeared to have been waiting awhile (he was bored, playing with the antenna etc).
I went to Zellers customer service and let them know what I witnessed, they in turn, called mall security. A customer at the desk (who had been waiting awhile) had said she spotted the same boy when she had come in.
My question to the irresponsble parent or guardian of this young boy is- WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING? You left your child in a dangerous parking lot BY HIMSELF so you could go shopping? He looks about 7 years old- why didn't you take him in with you? Or leave him with a sitter? Or worst case- leave him IN the car? I hope mall security came and investigated, and I hope proper authorities are getting involved because there is no way I can see this situaton as being a safe or responsible way to treat you child.
