Does anybody else remember going when it was a little more economical? When I was a kid I think it was 25 bucks to join plus uniform. Now it's something like 164 bucks plus a uniform. I guess it's on the low end compared to other extra curricular activities. But still makes it tough for a parent to afford the guides, swimming, the dance or other if your kid wants to join. Like what do your kids do and how do you prioritize what activity you can actually afford to put them in? At my house we want to swim, guides, dance and take karate. Like that's about 1000 bucks to enrol everybody and that's before the back to school shopping has been done!!

All depends on the budget. When my daughter's daycare bill went down due to school age we still budgeted the same to allow for extras like you talk about. Good thing was it was spaced out over the year. Girl Guides was while there was no snow, swimming during winter, etc. I guess what do they really want to do? Ask them to pick one or two things and go from there is the easiest.

My daughter is in brownies and it was only $99, for the whole year. Plus they are very lax on the uniform. All that is recommended is the shirt and sash. To me it's pretty reasonable compared to most other extracurricular activities.

Girl guides is by far the most economical program. The initial cost covers from September to June, about $15 a month. It's a great program and well worth the money.

Girl Guides is just over $100 to join for the year. Uniforms are encouraged but are not compulsory.  
 
There are additional costs such as weekly dues (vary in each unit) and camps/sleepovers have additional costs.  
 
The program runs from September to May/June (varies slightly per unit) and takes a short break around Christmas and Spring Break (run like the school year does).  
 
Registration is available online for all age groups www.girlguides.ca.  
 
And volunteers are always needed!!! The more volunteers we have the more girls we can accept into our program. Last year units were full to capacity!
