I'm wondering if there's other step parents who feel the way I do... I feel being a step parent can be tough sometimes! I guess I'm looking for support or advice from people who find it difficult at times too, it can be difficult co parenting with your husband/wife at times too. Any advice or suggestions when it comes to step parenting and co-parenting together would be appreciated or just if you wanna say hey I'm with you and offer moral support. The struggles for us are when we disagree on certain things pertaining to the kids. I'm very overprotective he isn't . It can be just plain hard sometimes . It's hard when we have his kids but mine are with their Dad. I miss my own so much! It's fine when we have all the kids together but when there's times when our schedules don't mesh and mine aren't home with us I really miss them and I feel like a fifth wheel with my husband and his kids. I know it's crazy to feel like that but I just do. Does anyone else ever feel like this? Sometimes it's nice knowing if there's other people going through similar situations.

when his child came to live with us, so we already had our free life of no children. When he came to live with us at age 12, it was tough. But my husband let me do discipline if needed, etc. We really talked first about how I would handle it. Make sure those lines of communication are open on how you can parent his children.

Sometimes the kids actually need time with their parent who isn't always there. A step-parent does not need to be included the whole time the child(ren) are with the birth parent. One can have some together time with the kids, and the some enjoy the time with your Mom/Dad.

I hear you 110% and sometimes it just plain sucks! Wish I had advice but all I can say is it won't last forever and make the best of your situation! Hugs!

Thanks for your comments. I agree with the above posters as well. I feel it's important for me to spend time with just my kids as well as he spends time with just his. We don't always do things together. I know it's good for the kids to just have their own parent sometimes as well. Thanks again everyone. I appreciate your comments.
