...because that's how often the topic of tipping comes up.  
 
If you're a server and you want tips, you've got to actually try and not just phone it in. Don't expect me to dook you my change just because you showed up at my table.  
 
In fact, I'm such a good customer, y'all should be tipping ME, for making your life that much easier.  
 

I worked in a trendy NY restaurant for two years. 2.00 an hour. Fri and sat nights cleared about 300.00 in tips in 4 hours. 8.00 in wages meant nothing to me. Was I amazing, meh not really, sometimes. But always great. Tip out was minimal. I sure wasn't doing anything to earn that kind of cash. In the states tho, even if you're not great, they do tip. It's the employers who need to pay better and not make the customers feel like the have too. Europe has it right, they don't tip, but servers are paid a living wage.

Not once did I mention tips. Gawd.. This isn't about this this is about peoples ignorants on what servers deal with sometimes. Customers expect top notch service going out.. Fair enough your paying for a meal you deserve that as so do I.. But you walking in as a customer does not know me.. No clue so considering you've already got a bad taste in servers.. How would you feel for the amount of time that you dine with at the restaurant if you were the server and you were being judged the whole time and you didn't smile when you said how is everything, then the customer then starts getting mad? Something so small turns into so big.. Or how would it make you feel if you came in and the server just had a customer rip her a new one and she's heartbroken cause she put her all into it so her minds not there but then you make matters worse by complaining about her service..  
 
And yes in fact I have a new home, cars and going on a trip but again, your assuming I'm single because I must not have a degree because I can't spell the word egg right?!? Wrong.. Married for 7 years been with hubby for 12 years.. Owned two businesses and have been working my arse off for many years to afford the nice things in life.. It's hard..  
 

Someone came In and was rude to u or a server welcome to the world this happens everyday most people don't go on public forums to cry about it. The video is silly ya people are impatient and want stuff now as with every job people don't like to wait that's just how it is. It's funny how servers not all but lots feel like they have it the hardest but yet they don't stop y is that oh ya free money in the form of tips.

The problem is, nobody cares what servers go through, because we ALL go through crap at our jobs! There are tons of other jobs that put up with the same crap and worse! Why do servers need to whine about it publicly so much? I work with the public and have dealt with some pretty miserable people, but I don't feel the need to complain about it and I certainly don't expect the public to top up my wages because of it. Enough with server pity parties! Either suck it up or get another job.

You better stick with your own two businesses and make money out of them. Giver your 120% to your business and do not complain about people who go to restaurant, pay money for their food to get low service and do not complain. Honestly, I have not seen many server to do much more than taking order and bringing food. If they ask you if you need something, mostly they expect that you say, no thanks., and at the end leave a big tip for them. Tip is for extra service and all depends on the feeling of the customer if they want to give something or not. There should be no rule, such as 15% or whatever, customer is the one who give the tip for service, could be 0% or 20% or more, but it is customer decision and customer definition of how much you have gone over the expectation. It is not by your definition that you think you give your 120%. By the way the video is not funny if you put it here for laugh.

A bad day at work for you is someone hurt your feelings. A bad day at work for me is when a kid I brought to work with me lost his thumb because he was put to work with another crew that would not listen to me on how to do the job safely. If I screw up someone looses body parts or there life. Excuse me if I hurt your feeling when I come in to a restaurant in a community a thousand miles from home but I could care less about your hurt feeling. Do your job same as everyone else does. Be happy you have a job, and please no whine with my meal I might have something more important weighing on my mind.

You clearly didn't do your job if a kid lost his finger. You brought a kid to work and you state the other crew wouldn't listen to you, the right to refuse unsafe work can not be held against a employee, and the right to inform employees of dangerous work are both everyone's responsibility. You say they didn't listen to you about how the work was to be done safely, you should feel shame that you wouldn't stand up with that employee, or any employee for that matter, and in turn put him in a unsafe position that cost him a limb.

Isn't the United States where servers make pennies on the dollar, you're paid the same wage as anyone else, you're also being paid to do your job correctly which requires serving food, if you want a tip do an excellent job at it, be happy you work in an industry that has tips, and especially, even if you do a great job and don't get a tip, be glad you still get a pay cheque as well

All jobs are accompanied by some amount of "crap". However, the crap at your job does not even compare to what a nurse goes through on a daily basis. Example: Verbal abuse? Check! physical abuse? You betcha. But do you see nurses whining? NOPE! Suck it up, and if you aren't happy being a server, don't be!

Do I feel somewhat responsible yes. When you work 12 hour shifts can you control what other shift supervisors do no. If they choose to not follow procedures as explained to them what can the oposite shift do. You are not there to see it happening only the results of. The responsibility on my part comes from the young fellow was to learn under me which would of allowed me to teach him where to and where not to put his hands to be safe.point being that person you are serving who seems stressed just may be. Perhaps the last thing they need is a waitress who can't take your order to the right table even if you are the only patron in the restaurant (true story).

I just want to say that I am numb to all the negativity and egos involved with my thread. This was suppose to be a ha ha but I see I've bruised a few egos along the way!  
 
Just remember to all you "cranky" customers.. Maybe the next time I'll see if you want me to call your mommy to see if she will cut your toast in bunny shapes and call your dad to finally tell you he loves you.. Maybe I'll get my boss over to fire me infront of you so you can sleep better...

A good laugh . I was impressed that u could afford the trip and cars and house . That stopped as soon as u said your really not doing it alone . No one in their right mind would agree that tips in Brandon would pay for all that unless u save for a very long time. Servers is a cut throat industry. You have to be better then the others . Pleasing people is one of the hardest things to do. But it's a choice you make . We all choose where we work and what we put up with . We get crabby if something is not up to our standards because we are the ones paying for it. So yes I'll be unhappy if the food is cold, over cooked, under cooked , if my refills don't come and if your attitude is crapy . Servers have to earn my tip just like when I go to work and earn my wage. Simple as that.

And a pretty penny is when u can pay for a trip to Mexico in a shift if serving does that then I'll quit my job.

Not one of you knows who I am.. What I make, if I have three jobs yet know that I don't even live in Brandon or even how old I am. Did I inherit money to be able to pay for this? Is it on my credit card? Line of credit. There is financing available for all of the above. Am I smart with my money?  
 
Again you guys are all assuming.. Judging and we wonder why kids these days end their lives because of that.  
 
I can't stress this enough that this wasn't how much money a server makes.  
 
How and why can't a server pay for school on what they make.  
 
I don't live in Brandon anymore as that town I couldn't make money. I live and work in alberta. I just love ebrandon and believe in this website and wish there was more websites in canada just like ebrandon.  
 
I think y'all need to relax, quit judging and believe their are hard working people in the world that are smart with money and have penny pinched their money. I'm not a teen. I'm in my thirties. Can't a person save. Or do y'all think that because I'm a server that I should be living in low income housing? Common. Again people expect too much in life. Quit expect anyone that act a certain way. Your not forced to tip me. At all. And I'm sure we've all ran into servers that you scratch your head.  
 
I had one server kid you not, as I also leave cash for a tip.. Very rarely on card.. But this one particular time I was paying with card and yes had the too in my hand. And as I was paying, he looks at the piece of paper as it approves and notices I didn't leave a tip (as I was leaving cash) and has the audacity to point to the machine and say "did I do ok?"  
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!? I was so upset that he put me in that position and I was in disbelief that he said that. So puzzled I decided to not leave the tip and as my husband was putting my mother n laws coat on and I was waiting up front, the guy comes over and rips up all the napkins to see if I left a tip. THATS ignorant.  
 
Anyways I'm not here to prove anything to anyone. You only live life once. Be happy!

Babysitting. Average childcare is $900 last I was living in Brandon. You can have 5 kids. Do you think a childcare provider deserves $4500 a month? More than over your typical minimum wage job?

What would be even better is that I would love to have a tablet of some sort that I could order what I want when I want. This would ease the whole tips and service. I don't dine out to have a conversation with someone working that night. I am only eating for about 1.5 hours as the longest wait is for food or else it would be about a 30 minute dine. To punch in my order at the table and then have someone bring it to me would be just perfect. No hassles, confusion, easy. Then the restaurant would only have to pay people to sit customers and runners for food/drinks.

Please don't minimize your POV by singling out another hard working profession to attack. By doing that, you are lowering yourself to the level of those attacking you and, I hope, you are above that.

Actually average childcare in brandon is $25-$30 a day and you can have 4 not 5 kids. So that is $2000-$2400 a month then deduct food, supplies and everything else. No tips in this job too, and it's helping raise children not serve food. You clear just above min wage. No where close to $4500/month here. Why should servers make more? And why should servers get tips? We too cook, serve, and clean up the table for the kids, along with much much more, and no tips expected. It's really not a fair comparison.  
 
As for the video, I personally didn't find it funny, just simply childish. We all have had a job where we deal with crap from others, servers are not the only ones.

you got that right. I always tip when I eat out which is more than I should be. I will no longer be tipping anymore now that I have thought about it. I don't enjoy when you throw it in peoples faces that you have a new car and a new house and a vacation coming up. You dont need my money. I'm going to put my tips away for my own vacation or for someone who needs the extra help.

Although I have never been a server, having worked retail to put myself through school I can attest to the fact that there are often customers that treat those serving them as sub-humans. I tip servers 85% of the time, and in the cases that I don't it's because the service was less than desirable. Even in those cases there is no need to treat the servers with no respect. I'm on the fence with whether or not servers should be tipped. I do so not because I see it as something that is required, but to show my appreciation for some of the fantastic service I've received at restaurants. If you're someone that doesn't believe in tipping, I don't see a problem with that. Just don't be a jerk.

Babysitting; hard work never once did I say it is easy.. I ment by that comment that most people think it's easy work and they can get an average of $900 a month per child.. Are you going to judge them for that too? Maybe I didn't make myself clear however I was by all means not judging them. I once was too a child giver once upon a time ago. Like are you guys going to judge a mom who put herself through school but later in life wanted to run a daycare? How many beautiful homes run daycares?? Like cut the crap out already.

Babysitting and Childcare are 2 different things.  
 
Also, only recently in the past few years has the average monthly Childcare fee been $600-700. I do not know anyone who makes even close to $900 per child!! It's also 4 children not 5. Plus keep in mind, Childcare providers are running a business out of their home which means they have business expenses. We make far less than the $600x4. In fact, most (if not all!) of us make less than minimum wage in the end! To compare Childcare to waitressing doesn't make sense at all.  
 
To answer your question though...yes, I do think Childcare providers deserve to make more than minimum wage. Does it happen? Heck no!!

First maybe we should get mygirlandme mommy to cut her toast into bunny shapes and he dad to call her and finally tell her he loves her second when you say that u have a new car and house and going on a trip when u r talking about serving yes people think that's how u make your money so don't get all mad at people for thinking that when you said it. I agree! it shouldn't be expected, just do a great job no matter where you are! I for one could never be a server, been there, done that! I have respect for those that can do it and do it well, they get that respect and a great tip from me!

Maybe those customers that are cranky have just had a terrible day and put up with a lot of crap themselves. Some of us go out for meals just to try and get away from terrible days and if you go to a place where the service is awful it just makes you more miserable.
