I need the help from the great people of Brandon. I have a 16.5 year old son who has been working at a fast food chain for well over a year now and is getting next to nothing for shifts. He is enthusiastic and wanting a different job where he can get more than 3 hours a week. He has a resume ready and has handed out a ton with no replies. Anyone able to help this young gentleman who really wants to work when he's not in school

He should apply at Canadian Tire. There always seems to be young people working there. Sobeys, Co-Op, movie theatre. Walmart.

Help your son add computer skills to his list of qualifications by showing him the classified tab. If he scrolls down from there he can find job opportunities.

Apply at the hospital. Some Dietary shifts are 4-7:30.

When I was 16... I pumped gas and weighed/filled propane tanks, changed oil... as a female... garage work was what was left over in my town and i dont regret it.. try garages, gas stations etc.

Old enough to work at the mall - most places there want over 16 in case they need to hold keys.  
 
My 15 year old just started at McDonalds and is in the same boat, she is getting one or two shifts a week, but at least they are usually 6+ hours each.

Pump gas. Go to service shops in town and see if they need someone to do oil changes. Go to any retail store and see if they are hiring. Lots of options for those who show initiative and hit the streets looking for work.

Right now is almost the worst time to look for work in the retail world.  
 
All of the Christmas hiring is done in October, and then majority are temp employees and students, and will most likely be laid off in January. (I've worked as Christmas staff, and hired Christmas staff)  
 
The other side of this is that every single kid out there can only work evenings and weekends. Which means the shifts needing filled are days and overnights. The jobs that are available right now are often full-time, Monday to Friday positions which obviously are inappropriate for a student.  
 
Myself and my fiancé both worked Tim Hortons and McDonalds jobs all of high school, and the hours are always worse during Christmas. People want extra spending money, etc. If your teen is looking to make more money and get extra hours, offer to take holiday relief. (Working New Years, Christmas Day)  
 
It sucks, but it's time and a half, and Christmas Day I ALWAYS worked a 5 hour shift.  
 
Spring is the best time to look for new work for students, as University students are typically done, which means we begin working day hours (leaving evenings open) and graduating students leave the retail world.
