New proposed bylaw In Hampstead, Quebec, to prohibit smoking in all outdoor spaces including public streets, sidewalks, and smoking in a vehicle. “Hampstead Mayor Bill Steinberg told CBC the proposed ban would prohibit people from smoking almost anywhere outdoors”

Will this eventually become the norm across Canada? Thoughts?

I used to be a smoker. If you smoke or own a gun in todays world, your thought of as dirt by the entitled. Sad the way things go sometimes.

Yeah, like you can take a gun in public to those places. Also, a cigarette is not going to help you hunt nor protect yourself from a bad animal out in the country.  
 
My thoughts...it is good for many reasons, and there will be many reasons behind this proposed ban.

I Would support that by-law. I can see good reasons behind it

Banning stinky humans(The kind u can smell if they are walking 20 feet ahead of u) or at least hose them down once in a while.

I find it hard that people of Quebec will adapt to that. I have lived in Quebec, Ontario, Alberta and now Manitoba. All in big cities. Out of all 4 provinces.. I find that Quebecers smokes the most. It''s a religion out there for them. But it is the better for everyone!

This will be very hard to enforce if approved. It will also probably infringe on human rights, its personally owned vehicles. There is already a law that you can't smoke inside a vehicle with someone under the age of 16? i believe.  
 
Saying that someone driving alone in a vehicle cant smoke in their vehicle will never happen. Tossing butts out the window is another thing, and you can be given a ticket for that already. However, disallowing citizens to smoke in their own property... Is probably in some way illegal.  
 
I have a feeling this will be a touchy subject out there.

It would never happen it would end up being political suicide for whatever party endorsed the ban for the many whom do still smoke. also the many years in court that it would take for the infringement of human rights that the sails would fold with the PR stunt for what it is to die off. When is the public going to finally wake up with government and those in office with these foggy laws and stop being afraid of government it should always be the other way around.

I don’t think it’s a human rights issue really. Yes it’s your car, but you are in public. There are lots of things you aren’t allowed to do in your car.

No one is saying they can't smoke. inhale all you like... just don't exhale. No worries then...

Personally, I like the idea. I really don't like smoke around me, inside or outside. Realistically, I think it's going too far. Then again (in Canada) a person can't legally enjoy a cold beer while sitting on the beach.

I know cigarettes help people relax and what not but the smell of it is absolutely repulsing.. it sticks onto your clothes, you just smell it everywhere.

Now it will be more about the smell of weed burning.  
 
Sometimes I can smell it around town and can't see anyone. It seems to travel far.
