Never heard a thing.

It was actually a home alarm from a house right across the street from us. It was not only twice this morning but it nicely went off at 2:30AM for a good five minutes also. Was not impressed.

I was at the dog park and it hurt my hears. To be across the street... Guess they want the police to hear it directly from the Police station.

You can contact the City regarding a loud alarm siren from a private home. I'm sure there are noise by-laws covering this. BPS may also have something to say about this too.

Ya, wouldn't want an alarm to be too loud, it might scare away the criminals. The nice quiet ones are what all the Home Invasioners like.

It's likely too loud...and you don't want the alarm loud at all if you want to CATCH the criminals you want it silent so the cops have time to get there. You only want it loud if you're at home to wake you up AND to scare them away and in that case you'd want it at a reasonable volume so you don't blow out your own eardrums.

Unless they live in a bank you don't want a silent alarm. By the time the police get to the alarm call the chances of catching them are likely slim. For residential an audible alarm will more then likely scare them off or at least alert some neighbors as it did in this case. But with that said you need to have an alarm that is not just going off for no reason. That would be annoying in hurry.

and you'd be surprised how quickly the Brandon Police respond to an alarm. I remember a few times I forgot to disarm the alarm and the phone range before I was down the hallway...I didn't answer because it was midnight but thought that was strange...my computer didn't even have time to boot up before the police where there...you're talking like 3-5 minutes.  
 
When we're sleeping we set the alarm as "HOME" and that one will set off the loud sounds to wake you up and freak out a home invader. If you set your AWAY alarm to blaring sirens who's going to shut them off? I've had people pulling on a locked door (as if that would somehow make me appear) and thats been enough to trip the alarm...or sometimes strong winds will blow the double doors hard enough to trip the alarm...you wouldn't want that blaring at 150 decibels while I'm at the lake...silent alarm the security company just keeps calling until they get ahold of someone then they disarm and tell the police it was just a false alarm.
