For those that oppose.. why wouldn't you want one? and giving a reason of buy local.. just a thought is that Costco sell only certain number items vs a grocery store that sells probably double or even triple the items " |

Oppose is such a strong word. You'll have your people with tie-ins to existing grocers/retailers that might be looking at their piece of the pie shrinking if a Costco came and I definitely wouldn't hold it against them for not being a fan of what it could mean for the market.
I sense there's maybe a bit of a counter-culture push (for lack of a better term) from some folks that have read the gossip over the past decade+ and have some type of instinct to want to go against that grain/try to impose their preferences on others. I'm not sure I'd label anything that falls into that category as true opposition.
Personally I'm happy with my grocer options for the most part. My store is within walking distance and so would still be spending the majority of my time there even if Costco, Save-On and heck even Whole Foods came. The idea of paying for a membership to shop doesn't jive with me personally, but from the threads over the years it isn't hard to see that there are a lot of folks that Costco's business model does excite. Up to Costco to decide how many of those there's potential for in this market and I wouldn't begrudge them or customers if it turns out there's a match in this market!
