I realize there are a ton of signs and that drivers should still realize to turn around just posting my experience. I just passed thru the overheight sensors going west bound and the lights failed to activate. This is the second time in 1 1/2yrs of owning my camper the lights have failed to activate. Most times they work without issue indicating for me to exit onto pioneer road. I have a 13'6" camper.  
 
Just wanted to rant a bit these lights are not fool proof.

I take my combines past there and it’s about 50/50 if the lights trip or not.

My perception is that it's my AC unit that sets it off in the first place. Go the speed limit or under it breaks the beam long enough to set off the flashing warning lights. Go a little faster and the system doesn't recognize an over "sized vehicle". I agree, there's a potential flaw. Someone pulling or carrying something that's thin & tall could hit the bridge. I would hate to see a traveler have their AC torn off.
