If approved an individual can qualify for up to 17 wks maximum of EI sick benefits. Do the 17 wks have to be take consecutively? I’m off 8 wks and hope to go back for 4-6 before my surgery where I was hoping to use the remainder of my weeks available. Or do I have to work so many hours again to use the last of the 17 weeks? Looking for people knowledgeable about this or who even work at the EI office. Thanks in advance.

As far as I know you can spilt it as they will reactivate your claim .. just provide them a dr note with the dates your off . Also just to confirm ,it would be best to call ei and tell them your situation .
