That makes it sound like maybe it was a meteor. As they enter the atmosphere, they do so at crazy high speeds and can produce sonic booms. One in Russia in 2013 shattered windows.
That one entered the atmosphere at 69,000 km/hr.
It would only last a second or two and it would probably explode in an air burst but that could definitely account for the flashes of light and the noise if it was in fact clear at the time.
