Wondering tips and tricks others have used to have a budget friendly wedding. We would be fine getting married just us but we do feel like we want to i:nclude our family & children that day. I can’t justify spending thousands and thousands on just one day. But don’t know how to cut the costs without it being tacky. It would be a small ceremony under 100 people.

For our wedding we purchased my dress off line, had synthetic flowers and bouquet which I made using Michaels 40% coupons for the flowers, we had table and chairs rented from a small town rink, all decorations were diy. For our meal we had a colony cater it was AMAZING! It’s your day do it how you wish and how you can work it into your budget! It’s only one day!!

Suggestions for a venue/reception (from start to finish) & catering that is budget friendly? Around 50 people.

I don’t think that’s budget friendly. Although would be a beautiful location !

Not really sure what you are asking then. When someone gives you a suggestion and you reply with a lol. Prairie Firehouse is cheaper than most. You have not give us a budget guideline, for all we know it might be a JP and happy meals in a parking lot

Just because I reply with “lol”. I would love to have my wedding there but that’s out of my budget. I’m looking for different venues people have used that are under $1,000.

they can be very reasonable. how about doing an evening so you do not have to provide a meal for 100 maybe only a cocktail hour.  
 
Be prepared for the little things adding up. My daughters wedding 3 years ago today actually it was the little things that when tallied were crazy. all be it beautiful and there is nothing I would have changed. They had the wedding they wanted both husband and wife. and you have to focus on what would make the 2 of you happy not your parents not his not your friends.  
 
Firefly Acres is reasonable for the price I heard of a wedding this June. It is on the road to Brookdale. I believe it may be tough to get a date if you have a specific one you want.  
 
Maybe a venue just outside the city like say Wawanesa, Forrest or Kemney.  
 
Lots of options outside of the big city go for a drive. check some out make it a date night.  
 
I had people who I didn't know call us to rent something we own for a wedding. We do not rent it out but in this case they clean it they use it. That's the only charge. This will be the second wedding in it. You never know what you might find.  
 
hmmm there is a place near Lenore MB too that rents out their yard for weddings. I was to one there a few years ago it was pretty too.  
 
Maybe you have a relative that would allow a yard or Quonset wedding.

Don't know what kind of day you are envisioning, but if a big party reception doesn't matter to you, you could always do a sunrise ceremony with a brunch reception.  
 
Catering a brunch is a heck of a lot cheaper than a dinner.

I'm in a different phase of life now so maybe my opinion might be laughable.  
 
But honestly, if my husband and I were getting married today, we would rent a hall and have a potluck. No presentation, bring a casserole, salad or desert instead. We're having a party!  
 
But for more "normal" wedding, definately having a brunch is cheaper. Have mimosas for booze.

We had meat & cheese platters, buns & watermelon...and white cake with ice cream! Also, coffee, tea, powdered juice, water. We kept that simple.  
 
I have been to one that had a potluck (food supplied by the family). Meat was barbecued. It was very nice. I heard of one recently that was just an outdoor picnic with a weiner roast...come as you are type of relaxed thing. I heard that it was unique with lots of fun. It rained, which added to the festivities.  
 
Venue...a park would be nice. Have you ever been to Big Valley (Rosedale Park, Bernie MB)? It is absolutely gorgeous & can be private depending on who goes there for the day. It has a creek too, which might give interesting photo opportunities. I think it would be a great pick. If it rains, though, it could be difficult to get up & down the valley road. Another pretty place could be Victoria Park at the bandstand in Virden (contact the town if you want the bandstand), maybe Eternal Springs (park, fishing dams, swinging bridge). The Peace Gardens would be beautiful. I don't know how much venues might be to rent, but they have a lot of buildings there that they use for Legion camps, etc. How about area lakes down that way? There are many very beautiful ones to choose from.  
 
I agree. Go explore. Check out options. Find something that suits your personalities and budget. Enjoy the pursuit of the perfect place.

Think outside the box! Do a bbq style meal. Buy pork loin and so pulled pork in crockpots with some salad and a slab cake. Set up a phone for music with Spotify. Look for sales and stay minimal. Call all venues for prices as well as what’s i:ncluded or not. DIY everything and look for used/sale items for decor. I googled a lot of budget friendly ideas. Community centres are often cheaper than hotel venues.

Small town community center? That's what we did. Cost was $250 and we were allowed in the day before for set up and the day after for clean up. Set up tables along the back half. Found an arbor on ebrandon. Really did everyrever ourselves. Lots of dollar store finds for decorations. Went minimal on flowers. We bought pork from an abitoir and had a friend who is a chef cook and family helped with sides. Made an amazing three tier cake myself with help from bulk Barn, still get compliments on it. White findant and real roses from the grocery store. It's your day. Do it how you like. You can go as small and cheap as you like. There is nothing you HAVE to have. We had many other things we would rather spend money on and we had zero desire to go in debt for one day. I don't know how much we spent in total but it wasn't much. Don't make anyone think there is anything you need to do or have. The community center we used had lots if lights and and disco ball lol and we had friends make us a playlist of the music we wanted. You can do it!

Can be scary. Our wedding was done for under $5000. And that i:ncluded my dress and his outfit and hotel room. With professional photographer. If you would like some ideas that could help, PM me.

We did things backwards. We started with wedding photos at 2, had supper for all i:ncluded in photos at 4:30 so kept to immediate family and wedding party (no spouses) then got married at 6:30 at the church. Speeches/toasts at 7:30 at hall followed by first dances and then cake and lunch served. Immediate family brought food for lunch, we had prepped everything the week before ourselves. Cake was a coop sheet cake. The hall was fairly inexpensive and we did all the decorations ourselves.

We went to a potluck wedding at Island park in Portage. Was really nice. Lots of shelters and trees, park benches. Potluck was fun, lots of variety.  
Also, heard of a couple that surprised everyone by getting married at their social! That's a cool idea. No worrying about anything and everyone is already there.

We rented Lady of the Lake and had them do the meal, we paid extra for wine at each table. We had a band play there as well, but they have a sound system that you can play music on (at an extra cost but it was minimal). We did an outdoor ceremony and Lady as reception (but we were given the option to move to lady for ceremony as well if it was raining)...just an idea
