Just curious if anybody knows if there is a pay difference when switching from ei sickn3ss leave to mat leave?

Maternity leave has been extended to a year-and-a-half but the pay is the same, so basically they just stretched it out over longer, meaning you get less per cheque. Therefore, my brain is telling me that switching into mat leave would get you less money per cheque… but I could be wrong.

If you are taking 12 months mat leave, there's no change. The only part that changes is you don't have to report that you are still sick. It just rolls over to mat leave. If you are doing the 18 months leave then there will be changes to the dollar amount. Service Canada can answer all your questions, if you can ever get through to them!

There’ll be no change in your payment amount when you switch form sickness to maternity leave. All based on the same income formula over the 52 week period. You’ll probably have to phone or go to service Canada to cancel your sick leave and apply for maternity leave benefits.

I think (that’s why I advice checking) that you don’t cancel the sickness one but move on to maternity the day of birth. Just would advise them.

AND for any other mothers out there. No matter you think about how many hours you have apply anyway. As I think they go back two years for this type of stuff. They use to anyway.

Check if you have sick leave or short term disability through work first! I was on short term disability due to blood pressure then went on EI maternity leave.
Fun fact: you get 15 weeks maternity leave and 35 weeks parental leave for a total of 50 weeks pay NOT 52. That’s a good FYI to know!
