Ya usually drunks or wrong house. The only other idea that comes to mind is back in high school when i knew people who did break and enters they''d go at night and before they''d hit a house they''d ring door bell or knock on door. If there was no answer/movement caused, it meant likely noone home which meant easier pickings, also i think it''s a lesser charge if it's unoccupied.
