How do you get the GST back? When you buy a new vehicle does the dealership just subtract it off GST calculated on your contract? Is it your job to get them the info for what your credit is worth? First claim so super new at this!

Is non refundable. PST is what you get refunded when you get rid of one vehicle and buy another to replace it. I think you would get the form from the autopac agent and apply to MPI for your refund. ( it's been awhile since I have done it.)

If you have had a vehicle that was a total loss, all you need to do is submit your bill of sale for your new vehicle to your adjuster to claim your credit back. As long as you paid GST on your new vehicle you will get up to your credit amount back.

It's a PST refund and you get the form from your autopac broker or from Finance in the Provincial Building and then submit it to the Government. Likely be about 3 -6 months before you get your cheque.

You can also get the PST rebate form online. I have had hit and miss success when asking an Autopac agent for it - some don't even seem to know it exists.  
 
The form is called the Manitoba Retail Sales Tax Act - Application for Refund Motor Vehicles. I just typed "manitoba retail sales tax act motor vehicles" into Google and it popped up as a PDF.

If you are trading in your old vehicle then the credit will automatically be done. If you are selling or have sold it privately you have 6 months to buy a new vehicle and submit a claim for the PST. If you have sold yours and bought a new one privately then take both bill of sales to autopac and they can automatically do the credit there (I did this in December). I always download the forms from the website when I need them. Just search Manitoba PST rebate.

Drop off your new bill of sale at any MPI service centre and they will refund your GST. You cannot claim private sale

ChelseaCaS - you cannot claim back GST at all but you can claim PST and on private sales too, I have done it.

You are incorrect. PST gets paid out so when you settle, it’s i:ncluded in your cheque. GST is a credit, but you must incur it before you can claim it back. As you don’t pay GST on private sales the only way to incur this is if you purchase it from a dealership and actually pay the GST
