Supposedly the rationale behind the change in policy is because MPIC is afraid that they are liable should their servers be hacked and customers credit card info be compromised. Why doesn't the same threat exist for customers who use the option of monthly electronic fund transfers from their financial institutions? I prefer using the monthly CC option because it's not such a great blow to the monthly statement. Now I can elect to pay quarterly (in which case for me I will renew in December) and can look forward to a December CC statement that not only has extra Christmas shopping charges but also a quarter of a year's Autopac as well.

Alvin why not just budget your money better? Take the money that you would normally pay every month and set it aside then use it to pay every 3rd month. Nothing changes, you are still paying the same amount just on a different time schedule. No need to blame Christmas or the Easter Bunny.  
 
But I do agree, it has nothing to do with security, well not to the extent mpi is trying to get use to believe. It's simple a way to avoid paying the ever increasing and expensive credit card processing fees.

It is also about saving money. The transaction fees merchants pay (including MPI) add up.

That is only a cost of doing business. They do things that make zero sense. The winter tire program comes to mind.

It should be ok if they give a full year notice but how many people will go to renew with no extra money in the bank account?
