Anyone live near 18th & Victoria? ( or even in other parts near the CN tracks) How is the train noise level?? (Horns and low-pitched rumbling, etc...)  
 
Especially interested in those who are SE of the intersection.  
 
Opinions?

I live in Douglas. Have lived there for decades.  
As a child, it wasn't long that I didn't even stir from my sleep when a train went by.  
the train runs right through and has to blow their horn before they go through the train crossing. Good thing too.  
The trains here are going through a fair speed as well. Brandon trains are so slow compared to our trains.  
 
If you live by a train, expect train noises.  
If you live by a farm, expect farm smells.  
 
I am sorry I don't know what the level of noise is like at your house. It takes awhile to get use to it.  
 
Its just a peeve of mine when I hear other people (not you) who just bought a house by the train tracks/yard and then complain about the noise and expect the tracks/yard to be moved. Duh the train was there before you or didn't you notice when you were looking for a house!  
 
Eventually I don't even know if a train goes through don't even hear it any more.

I have always lived near tracks, both in Brandon and in small towns. Brandon was the one place I never really heard the train because they weren’t required to honk their horns all the way through the city. You’ll be fine.

used to live in Douglas and got used to the horns and sounds from the train. Now living in Brandon and can hear the trains from the southend, but don't bother me.

Trains are so loud, and we honestly don't even need them. Just send it by truck lol

I have lived pretty much right beside the tracks in Brandon for the last 5 years. My current place is adjacent to a crossing with barrier arms. I dont even hear the train, bells or whistle. but if my mother stays the night it keeps her up all night.  
 
a few years ago i lived across from the yard and the only time i heard anything was if one of the drivers were being extra rough and legit slamming the cars together(rare)

Replace one train with hundreds of trucks.... That's highly efficient!

would be way better. and trains stop traffic, i cant be waiting for 10 mins all the time like that

From 18th & Victoria, I don't think you can be any further away from the CNR tracks. In fact you'd be closer to the CP tracks than CN. I'm not sure if you would hear anything from CN aside the whistle but the closest whistle would be the 13th street crossing and of course the 18th crossing but that's blocks away with the horns facing east/west. Not sure how many trains even use that track, maybe 2 a week. Maybe someone that lives on McTavish or 13th & Park Ave area could say how many trains but the CN track is not the main line.

bells/horns on trains and crossings are there because there are still far too many stupid people ignoring trains.  
 
Also no amount of trucks can haul what trains can haul as efficiently.
