If you've got a pic of your driver's license saved on your phone is that acceptable if you get pulled over or do you still have to keep the card on you?

Driver's licence required to drive motor vehicle  
 
24(1) No person shall drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the person  
 
(a) holds a valid driver's licence of a class that authorizes the person to drive the class of motor vehicle being driven: and  
 
(b) carries the driver's licence while driving.

That is the law. How you want to interpret "carries" is up to you but if it was me I would have the physical license on me however I suppose it would be up to the officers discretion if they would accept it on your phone. I am sure there will be some that would and some that wouldn't.

Per the Highway Traffic Act, s. 24 (1)(b) a driver is required to carry and produce the driver's license. Failure to do so can result in charges.

My phone case has a card holder attached. For the summer months for sure I carry my license there. Then if I have to run to the field etc I grab my phone and my license is always with me.

Why wouldn't you keep your license with you?

Interesting theory. I am guessing real license is needed as to prevent altering which could be done alot easier. But as we move forward your phone is becoming a wallet. Can use it to make purchases with tap feature. Can store all your rewards card barcodes/info on phone. Need for an actual wallet is becoming less and less.  
 
Quick google search does appear that one state allows digital id's store in a specific app.  
 
I would also wonder why your getting pulled over. Road side check stop. Probably more likely to accept then if you were pulled over for a traffic offense. They will just run your Info and verify the info and they can tell if it's valid or not. Why should it matter if it's a picture or piece of plastic.
