This guy should be fixed or jailed we are threatened with fines or jail time if we're to close to each other we have all missed our families and friends but told we can't see them or suffer the consequences but this guy goes to some island and brings along God knows who came into contact with how many people and he just steps down and says sorry well I feel that since I was threatened with these consequences this dummy should be ad well. I miss my family and friends too but don't see me flying around just my rant I'm.so mad about this.

First, the finance minister under discussion is from Ontario, so I'm not getting too wound up about it myself. Second is he broke no rules. You can still hop on a plane and go to Mexico if you like...in fact thousands still do. When they come back they have to quarantine for a couple weeks.  
What he did was poor political leadership of asking you to do what is recommended, and not what he does. He also knew it was not going to be seen in good light which is why he was having photos released during his vacation that made it appear he was still in his home province working. He is paying the price for that now.

While what he did was in poor taste and not recommended, it was not illegal so there are no corresponding fines or jail time associated with it.  
I see that he resigned, so it looks like he realizes that what he did, is not appropriate for someone in a position such as his.  
 
A person can leave the country, but must quarantine for 14 days upon returning to Canada. If a person does not quarantine, there are definitely fines associated with that.

When I was growing up I always heard the expression “never trust a politician” He’s only one. There will be more.

This finance minister is from Ontario. They have not been in the serious lockdowns that we have up until Boxing day when their lockdown took effect. Premier Ford said he made a mistake allowing him to go and he will be quarantined for 14 days.

there are more, Niki Ashton NDP member from Manitoba is in Greece today. She did not break any laws though.

laws were broken but when travel is not recommended and the citizens in the province are sacrificing seeing their loved ones over the holidays it is in extremely poor taste to vacation at this time. We hold our politicians to a higher standard and when they do not meet that standard we act accordingly. In other words I hope she enjoys her vacation because she is about to lose her job over it. If only there were fines for stupidity....

Wow when I said there would be more didn’t know the list would be this long and growing! So when these people come to your house like they did to mine and ask if they could put their name and party sign in my front yard at election time and then turn around and do this!? Never again no matter what party. Is it any wonder that the voter turn out gets less and less each time. What kind of example are these clowns setting? Instead they will likely get a full government pension and a pat on the back at the public’s expense.

While as Proud Canadians we can come and go as we please. Non essential travel is highly discouraged but it's not illegal. Calling them "clowns" is a bit much. The only reason everyone is so wound up is because they are politicians so it's apparently acceptable to name call and shame them? Please... The optics are not good and they should be leading by example but where is the outrage for the millions of others traveling non essentially?! Bunch of hypocrites...

Ever since the pandemic started people cannot go to their loved one's death bed. Funerals limited to a max of 5. Weddings cancelled, although it's not a life and death situation getting married is a life event. These times are not good but why should any politician think that they are better than us? They can miss out on life events too.  
 
Seen on MSN, "where's Trudeau" because no one knows where he is this holiday season. I'd like to know too if he's on a beach somewhere.
