Is Brandon doing fireworks tonight?? Midnight?? I could not find anything on the city website

the city has never done fireworks on NYE.

Brandon too cheap to do sompthin like that. Special occassions city has to make money. Most small towns always do something for citizens. Brandon wont give a free hot coco or a hot dog unless they can make money on it

I don’t want to see my hard earned tax dollars pi**ed away on fireworks.  
 
Kudos for the City of Brandon for doing the responsible thing!

With the cost of things now a days and everything only going up. I’d rather not have a five minute show in the sky for a ridiculous tax bill. Fireworks aren’t cheap.

But small towns sure can afford.. Even a village size of Elgin puts on a fantastic show on Canada day..But nooooo not brandon

But in our town fireworks ( for Canada day) are partly funded by the municipality and mostly funded by small business and individual donations. Once a few people chip each chip in some dollars it soon adds up to make a decent display, even for our smaller display the fireworks cost several thousand dollars though. Saying that I think that this New Years was not the right time for firework displays as people would have gathered to watch and we don’t want that happening right now.

Brandon puts on a Canada Day show too. The 2020 fireworks were cancelled due to covid restrictions.

The small town I lived in puts on a great fireworks display every year for Canada Day but it is organized and funded by the local Lions Club and many volunteers. They fundraise all year and residents can donate through local businesses as well. It is always an excellent display but it is not done or funded by the town . It is done by volunteers with great community spirit and the people in the town and area that enjoy it and want to see it continue.

Always worth mentioning to powers that be if there’s something you think the city should consider investing resources in in the future, but this would’ve been a tough year to ask for added spends or new events that would give people an excuse to gather.  
 
Canada Day and Summer Fair week are the big ones for fireworks and seems to me the game was really upped at the 2019 Canada Day show. Haven’t heard what plans might be hoped for just yet, probably a wait and see on where we get with COVID development/vaccine but here’s hoping!
