From notice just sent out by the city, the main event gets underway on Monday re demolition at 18th and Pacific to prep for Daly bridge construction.

Manitoba Infrastructure is to start demolition on the "International Harvester Building." Pasting a series of tweets put out by the city below.

There will be single lane traffic in each direction on 18th Street from Rosser Avenue to McDonald Avenue.

was never a heritage building. There isn't anything special or heritage about it to warrant a heritage designation.

Alrighty....
thanks to the good folks at Sutton-Harrison Realty I've been able to setup an experimental live image webcam that uses the same overall system as the 18th Street North webcam that's been at Grand Valley Church for the past four years. The camera captures and shares once per 60 seconds a live high-ish quality shot of 18th St and Pacific Ave... of interest for anyone that's been following this thread along with anyone wanting to monitor impacts of the winter-ish storm ystem that's on the way.

While the demolition is in progress, there'll be an ad/image link from the eBrandon front page that takes one straight to the most recent image captured from the camera. From that page you can click on links to see a series of archived shots from the past hour and from the past 24 hours so that you can compare and contrast any changes that have taken place.

I call the camera experimental because I havent used this particular camera for a longer-term project, and so is always the possibility of the odd glitch/bug that could get in the way. The camera was acting up a little last night but is working pretty great today... Will do my best to keep an eye and address anything that pops up.

In addition to Sutton-Harrison, a special shout-out to Smitty the Mover of Boissevain... who went out of his way to slightly relocate an obstruction that was in the nearby parking lot. End result is that much better of a view of where things are at.

Using Galaxy 20 fe 5g, using the Chrome browser.

Everytime I go to the link, a Sutton advertisement is over top the web cam image, so you cannot see anything.

Thanks... looking into it. Fine all around on all browsers on my Mac and iPhone but clearly still something in at least some mobile versions of Chrome. Will work on it tonight and get to the bottom of it!

During bridge construction

If things go well and the camera bugs get sorted out, would you keep the camera going through bridge construction to completion? Watching the progress during construction would also be nice to see since being able to stop and get a good view otherwise might be a challenge. Would also be interesting to make a timelapse of the construction.

Just like to say, all fixed now! I can see the web cam without the ad in the way! Thank you!

Im hoping the pedestrian bridge will be open afyer 6pm every night, as its my only way home from work, so if it is, ill be able to see things closer

Thank you, Adam, for providing the video of the demolition - very interesting!

I recall reading something when dates for demolition were set about people perhaps wanting to salvage bricks from the building. Not interested in them myself, but wondered if salvaging them is off the table - anyone know?

I'm not sure how many would be usable. If there was enough left to build something, I would like to see a brick fence built along the north side of Princess Park before another tragedy happens. It's been a few years and whenever I visit the city and see no barrier, I know it's only a matter of time until something else happens.

I've always thought that the demolition of some local building could serve as raw materials for such a fence.

Small children wandering into traffic during crowded events. A four foot fence would slow them down at least.

The solution of signs has always seemed to me to be an underreaction. A nice brick and metal fence, an actual barrier, would not take away from the aesthetic of the park, and add to the safety.
