Well, local stuff is at it's peak, so it's the season.
Pesto uses tons of it. Plus, it freezes well in an ice- cube tray.
You can actually just freeze basil generally. It's wonderful to have to add to soups and sauces in the winter. Just crumble the frozen leaves between your fingers.
