D. not everyone has drivers liciece with photo: and to obtain one through MPI, you need documents from fifty years back: They wanted my marriage certificate, since I am still using my married name, well, that was sixty years ago, no clue where it is,or if even had one: Birth certifiate misspelled given name with one letter, well thats not going to work: other placea accepted it, not MPI.And if I were to correct these issues, it would be a six month to a year wait.
So what does one do ??? "
To obtain the documents (birth and marriage) you can apply to Vital Stats for new copies. You can even request a correction to your birth certificate. They have records going back over 100-120 years. The only barrier is time (it takes a bit), expense (there are fees), and a bit of effort (there are forms to complete).
I have all my documents including my original birth certificate from 44 years ago, marriage & divorce certificate s from early 2000s, marriage again from mid-2000s and all my kids' documents. I have documents to prove every name change I've had.
I know stuff happens and people don't always have their documents, but if that happens it's a good idea to replace them. They are part of proving your identity and accessing benefits and services.
As for having "other options", what would you propose? Identity documents need to be relatively secure. Piggy-backing onto the existing MPI system seems reasonable, accessible and cost-effective to me. The barriers you feel you have are not insurmountable for most people (although they can be challenging for some segments of the population).
