It was supposed to be done weeks ago and it’s worse then ever… the whole intersection is closed now. I feel sorry for the businesses affected, it’s virtually impossible to access them.

The work that has shut down 26th this long is horrendous. That’s one of THE most-used, major streets in Brandon. There have been multiple days when next-to-no work is even being done!!  
It needs to be over.

July and August to do this when the city was half empty. But no, they had to wait until school begins to start this major project. Today they closed that intersection from all four ways! Now in order to get to Willowdale, the only way to get there is by going all the way to the 34th street. And agree with previous poster, many times there is noone even there!

Might I suggest that all of you find out who your city councillor is and start calling them. I agree that it's just ridiculous that it's taken this long to get the job done. Complaining on here isn't going to resolve the issue. Also start call public works to find out what the hold up is. Let's hold their feet to the fire, and maybe we'll get some action.

I have seen multiple people blow through the 4 way stop that is in place at 26th/ willowdale/brandon ave.  
 
I am not sure why people are failing to see the stop signs but I would advise people to be careful.

By no means is what's being done at 26th and Brandon Avenue a small job. They're putting in all new sewer and water lines on 26th street and now are currently doing that on Brandon avenue, then 26th street from the railroad tracks to Brandon Avenue is getting all new base, curbs, gutters, sidewalks and asphalt. The traffic signals at 26th and Brandon Avenue are getting replaced and everything underground is getting replaced also. The culvert that runs under 26th along the railroad tracks was also replaced with a concrete culvert, among other work. So by no means is it a small job.  
 
 
But what I can never understand is why the city waits until June to issue a tender and by the time the tender closes and gets awarded its already the end of June in the middle of construction season. Then works starts mid to late July and now probably won't be done until sometime in November. These kinds of tenders should go out in February or March. It'll be nice when its done though

I get it, it is very inconvenient for everyone. It's a long way around for some as was the removal of the 8th Street Bridge. At least your access will be restored and so far I have heard nothing newsy about replacing access at 8th Street.

They need to get out of road construction and focus back on patio blocks and flowers.

Part of the problem, from what I understand, is that the fiscal year begins April 1. It's part of the legacy of English colonialism.  
 
You won't even know if there's money for a project until after that date, so it's virtually impossible to tender it in Feb or March.

according to the city it's no big deal to have to drive a longer route every day. Like what happens daily for people living in the north end since the 8th street bridge was torn down and not replaced.

There is never any mention of the culvert being installed with a negative slope( water going wrong way) the first time installed. Costing them valuable lost time to redo

The 8th street Bridge destruction effectively " cut off" downtown from the area N of the tracks....ball diamonds, Sportsplex, riverbank events, bicycle to mall...so downtown including the transit terminal became less relevant for all central and south-central Brandon looking to walk or cycle and NOT use First or 18th.  
Some type of " skywalk/bridge " for cycles, pedestrians, mobility devices should be there and it would help feed the Riverwalk Bridge and make it useful.

I encourage all to call/email these fellows and let them know your concerns about this construction. I already did!

The councillor for Meadows, Sunday Frangi didn’t reply to two of my emails in regards to an unrelated issue so don’t expect much from him.

I heard that they required a specific piece of equipment that was proving difficult to acquire.  
 
I don't really see what complaining to your local council member will achieve.

26 street is open for single lane traffic now

Sunday wanted the job bow he has to do it!  
I'd email again and cc the mayor or new city manager.  
Maybe then he'd answer?

They now have the two east lanes paved and open, 1 lane each way.  
 
I was looking forward to being able to drive north just over the tracks without encountering that infamous stretch that used to flood every rain.  
 
So much for that, the rebuilt road i:ncludes the formation of the puddle. Wishful thinking I guess, but as it was all ripped up you have to think they would have fixed the problem instead of replicating it...

If you think 26th is bad. Try sitting at the traffic lights at Park Ave & 34 street going East & West . They changed the timing and now we sit there forever. When school starts or when it out, traffic is back up on Park Ave. It’s terrible all the time. They should put little more effort in setting the light timing. The city counciler for the area should check it out going east & west at different times.

none of you have ever taken a detour in Winnipeg construction and it shows.

This isn't about Winnipeg, its about this job going way over time. It is frustrating for everyone affected by the construction. Just when it looked like the job was wrapping up, it got bigger. It causes traffic to back up on Richmond and 34th.  
 
7 minutes a day, since the beginning of July, is about 30 hours of MY LIFE I'm not getting back, and has cost me how many extra tanks of gas.  
 
So it might not seem like much to you, but it is getting old. Just because construction is worse in Winnipeg doesn't make this any less frustrating for the people here.

This project is not terribly behind schedule. Yes there are some delays. There always are, but the realignment of 26 at Willowdale/Brandon ave is as big or bigger than the initial part of the project. The realignment is scheduled to be completed in July 2022. So expect closures and delays until freeze up at least. Plus you can go on the City of Brandon website and see road closures every single day. You can also see projected end date for that particular closure. If you drive blindly to this intersection every day it is your fault you are being heavily delayed. Do some reading online and make plans to avoid the road closure/construction

That Job is turning out to be a big Joke

City will point finger at the people doing the work and the company will point back at the city for errors they made. Likely both sides made mistakes resulting in this delay.  
But to call it a big joke is harsh judgement made by most likely armchair critics. People who pass judgement without knowing many of the facts of what happened.  
Regardless it is what it is. Will be done when it’s done. Brandon is not so big a city that detours are that bad. Maybe 5 or 10 mins for some  
 
As previously posted it is each person’s responsibility to be familiar with construction and proper detours hopefully saving time needed to retrace steps.

I have seen them do parts of it, bury it, and then dig it up again. They have done this a few different times. And many times there is no-one working at the site during the day.  
 
I wonder - do they actually know what they are doing?  
 
I understand this is not supposed to be completed until July 2022!!  
 
I feel sorry for the businesses on the corners- how on earth they supposed to survive when the public cannot access them? The city needs to step in and get this corrected.
