I heard there were textile recycling bins at the keystone and I didn’t see them, am I blind or are they gone? I haven’t checked the other locations yet. I rather recycle things than throw in the trash.

I dropped textiles off about a month ago. The bins were located at the south end of the grounds, along with the other recycling bins. I plan to drop a bag of textiles on Thursday when I come into town, can report back after that as to whether the bins are in the same place or not!

I just learned of this program on Saturday through an information display set up at the Brandon Shoppers Mall. Here is a link to the website.

Textile only - they were right at the west end of the row in keystone centre close to the fence opening area to Richmond.

I went to drop off textiles this weekend and there were no bins at the Keystone Grounds. I did find a bin at the East End Community Centre - on the north side of the building.

It makes me wonder what exactly that means. Textile recycling.

Given that plastic bag recycling doesn't always mean what we think it means, I question it.

I know the Keystone bins were recently removed but other bins around town.

My understanding is that the textiles that are diverted away from the landfill, are used for things like carpet underlay, tiles, insulation, the inside of boxsprings, etc.

I understood the textile recycling to be underwear, one sock, two socks, bras, belts, purses (anything, anything at all textile). wash them first. Old rags, one glove, two gloves - on and on

The link that Bluebell posted, lists what all kind of things are accepted in the textile diversion program.

Can anyone confirm that there are textile diversion bins at the thrift shops listed in the link? As of 4pm today, there are none at the Keystone site.

The link top portion is textile recycling bin locations for items that are ripped/unusable and the bottom portion is second hand stores to give a second life to your unwanted clothing that is in good condition.

There was no bin at the Keystone but I found one at Rideau Park/East End Community Centre.
