    Anyone else get the email just now from Netflix saying they were going to raise their prices by 7% for tax purposes? Is this a scam or legitimate?

    Up until now they weren't paying any Canadian taxes. Now they are - like all other media/streaming services.

    Got the email too. 7% Manitoba tax added onto the bill starting December 1. Here's the story from April:

    Sucks as a consumer, but only fair that these US disruptor co's have tax on their bills when the Canadian companies they're competing with for TV time are having to have it on theirs. Fair to assume we'll see it on more than Netflix.

    It’s not Netflix’s fault. The federal government made them add GST on the accounts a few months ago (started July 1st) , and provincial (Pallister) announced it back in spring that they were going to be making all these American companies (such as Netflix) charge PST, but they gave us a few months grace before it kicked in.
