they have no issue dealing with other protests with actions. Oh wait, these aren't First Nation protesters. The same people doing these convoys and protests always demand police get heavy handed with other protests.

Worth noting the picture posted elsewhere today of the local convoy-ish group complete with trucks and flags proudly in the parking lot of the local business that’s been ticketed for violating public health orders in the same week hospitalizations reached a pandemic high. The pic and the 100+ likes say about all you need to see as far as whether amongst the local faction this is about the cross border trucker mandate (Federal) or a wider disregard for public health orders (Provincial) that are in place to protect our medical system and everyone that needs it. Thankfully other than traffic disruption I haven't heard of anything that goes as far as aggressive, but man that's a tough pic to post if wanting to get any kind of wider public support from folks that understand where we are in this wave and understand why professional medical guidance has these orders in place.

Interesting read if you search the blockade in Alberta and how this law in title came to being. Years ago with Aboriginal blockades protesting pipelines, the trucking industry lobbied the province heavily and the law was brought into existence. It seems now to be a double edged sword that Alberta is not willing to use, fine arrest the truckers, and tow the trucks to open "Critical Infrastructure". Yes I see it as political suicide and also see it as grounds for racial discrimination that is now being asked in media! I also observed so called protest in city but also noted many repetitive "anti vax" propaganda. If most care to search the ones protesting say they want all mandates for crossing border lifted? Duh people there are mandates on American side you cannot enter US if not vaccinated so mandates on Canadian side are really a moot point as YOU CANNOT GO THERE without being fully vaccinated, now this again boils down to people who have been fighting the pandemic rules and have found another soap box to stand on and spew propaganda with total disregard for the majority of Canadians. Just my simple minded observations and felt need to rant, I apoligize if have offended anyone but please people open your minds and think of the majority and less ME ME ME.

about Alberta Bill 1 in a Facebook post about the blocking of the highway to the border crossing nears Coutts, AB. And the blockade supporters did not like that I brought it up. They made excuses for why it doesn't apply.

Making untrue statements falsely attaching main stream conservatives to these protests. Most conservatives don’t agree with these or any disruptive protests and most conservatives fully support vaccination and the government mandates for such. This is not a party political issue at all yet you keep trying to make it so .
Politics shouldn’t even be a factor in this pandemic as we should be all working together following the advice of public health officials. Your false statements add fuel to those of more extreme leanings and this is totally unhelpful at this time when we are trying to encourage larger vaccination rates and attempt to take pressure off our health care system while reducing suffering.
By all means criticize the minority spreading false information about covid and vaccination.

That is misrepresentation and like all surveys, data and statistics will have been manipulated to give a desired result. If you believe such things then you are unfortunately part of the problem. Most people find these protests abhorrent. They are disrespectful and wholly inappropriate. If conservative politicians with extreme opinions feel otherwise then I believe that we will see a backlash at the ballot box from traditional conservative voters.

The conservative party has ceded the center right position it used to occupy next to the center left Liberals and has been moving right for some time now. Voters have been voting with their feet ever since the re-uniting of the right by Harper because of the shrinking electability (too many ridings 80% conservative is bad for first past the post). Conservatives have basically ceded power to the Liberals for the foreseeable future. Fun fact: look up how many majority Liberal federal governments we had when Reform was around.

Presenting 55-45% as enough to represent a group is very misleading and more into the realm of confirmation bias... especially when the same poll you linked to had 54% of conservatives saying they have very little in common with protesters. In a lot of circles that's what we call a split.

I'm not sure most people clicking on this thread are looking to read or get into a partisan sort of tug-o-war. That might be more fitting for this one:

I don't know how to post a link so this is copied from google... While the 1918 H1N1 virus has been synthesized and evaluated, the properties that made it so devastating are not well understood. With no vaccine to protect against influenza infection and no antibiotics to treat secondary bacterial infections that can be associated with influenza infections, control efforts worldwide were limited to non-pharmaceutical interventions such as isolation, quarantine, good personal hygiene, use of disinfectants, and limitations of public gatherings, which were applied unevenly. AND, I don't believe they were mandated, they just did it.
Here we are going on year 3 and all because people won't do as they're told. In this day and age we should've had a way better handle on this.
I don't like being "told" what to do either but for the good of all I am doing it. I feel if everyone would get off there poor me attitudes and just do it we'd have been done with this by now. I've never been big on vaccines either but I already had to get shots to travel to some places so I bit the bullet and did it.
I am Conservative and DO NOT agree with the truckers. They are fighting for the freedom of 10% while taking away the freedom of the 90% to go to work, blocking roads, harassing, noise violation with their constant honking, polluting the air with their diesel. I can't even imagine the frustration they have in these cities with the noise, smell and harassing. Getting the border crossing vaccine mandate lifted doesn't do a darn thing since Biden has it in place there too. I'm not hearing of trucker convoys down there but maybe there are. Their fight for freedom could very well extend lockdowns with the large gatherings and no masks. Hope not but time will tell.
I don't see a big difference in Liberal and Conservative on this right now... JT isn't putting a stop to it and the PC's are standing with the truckers. Yes, they have a right to protest but this is beyond peaceful with what they are doing to the people in those cities.
I might be way off on this...

In the past many people comparing the Spanish flu or the flu of 1917 to Covid pandemic and how long it took to get past. I don’t think you can compare the two because there wasn’t the international air travel wasn’t as accessible or affordable as it is today, and the mentality and sense of entitlement of general public wasn’t nearly as it is today. If people were told to stay home they did. There wasn’t this entitlement that I deserve a hot vacation so I will go wherever I want and no government is going to tell me what to do! Type of attitude back then. Reality is that the government needs to tell people what to do because some people these days cannot make logical decisions in my opinion. Yes people will get Covid as they do the flu but if you’re properly vaxxed you’ll just be sick a while in most cases and if you’re choosing not to get vaxxed barring a medical reason for not getting it then you may die unfortunately. If you’re choosing not to get vaxxed because of some conspiracy theory, or because no one can tell you what to do, or some messes-up religious BS then I guess that just natural selection if you get the rona.

Removing protestors

When you talk about removing the protestors on the Alberta border crossing you also need to see that they have been trying to arrange tow trucks and shipping companies to help remove the vehicles after people are removed. They are coming up very short as it’s suicide for the business to tow those semis and tractors out of there as the trucking and farming community is there livelihood. Many have been contacted and they all reply the same stating it’s not in there best interest to get involved.

One of the things that some were doing to try to make the protest et all look bigger than it is is to point to the number of donors. Especially obvious now that you couldn't just look at the donor number and say that that's how many Canadians support (even though that itself was a comparatively very small number relative to the number of Canadian voters)
Some prominent figures in the USA far-right are especially growly & grandstandy over the way things played out with donations. Between that and USA far-right media figures covering this it’s enough to make a guy want to ask why when they have enough of their own challenges within their own borders to help address.
Either way, the interest from the Trump-ish crowd is undeniable. Fwiw this goes back more than a year, but during the last USA election that was fairly split in that country only 14% of Canadians said they would support Trump. But how about this. The Canadian government purchase tow trucks and remove the vehicles themselves....straight to the wrecking yard.

As well, the businesses that have rejected the requests for assistance from the RCMP can kiss goodbye their business as well as the border authorities which was considerable as well. Not to mention all the local residents and business owners who are being affected negatively by this. They chose their side.

The government can do that but they won’t as it would be millions in equipment and needed more staff to complete that job. Also to scrap all the semis and tractors would further hurt the economy both in agriculture and trucking as there is backlogs in both new tractors and semis so they would not replaced quickly even if you did have vaccinated operators to run them. The tow companies equipped for a job like this are not small town shops so the local area that’s in question and most people outside that area would not have a clue. I’m not saying I agree with what they are doing but they are smart about it as it’s a logistical nightmare to try to force them out of there.

So sad to see all of the accounts of verbal abuse that journalists (Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg) are having to deal with in trying to cover this. Just more of that far-right mindset and media boogeymanism that vast majority of Canada is better than, but really hate to see it here when you consider the key role media plays in a democracy in telling stories and sharing facts and that the people on the receiving end are just human beings doing their job.

want media that will only publish their version of the "truth". So National Post, Rebel, Sun News, Fox, OAN, NewsMaxx are the only type of media invited. Since anything that counters right-wing talking points is fake news.
