RCMP involved. More officers over at least a thousand or more.

Moved into park area and shut down this area. And it will remain shut.

Great move on removing fuel. Then arresting all trying to bring fuel in.

Protesters laughing as they changed water to gas containers and fuel to water containers thinking they are smart. Not smart as dangerous.
So next step for police is to stop protestors bringing containers. Confiscate all containers if any containing fuel arrest that person.

Court says no horns. Police lets enforce that.

City asking for higher fines including seizing truck / vehicles and even suspension of driving licenses.

Our current prime minister seems to be striking a divide between people in our own country as he is avoiding the crisis this has turned into. It brings back memories of when his father was prime minister and told Western grain farmers to go "fuddle duddle themselves". He ended up taking a walk in the snow and decided he was moving on from being PM. Maybe its time for his son to take the same walk and let someone else take the reins of this great nation "we call home" and bring back the unity to our country.

Justin Trudeau said “ we will not be intimidated”. He is standing firm and I commend him for that. The majority of Canadians are united behind him in this pandemic as is our duty.
Government, indeed a country cannot and will not be held to ransom by a mob. Soon these protests will be ended by the authorities and life will go on.

In terms of our local link to Ottawa, I'd really like to see Larry M speak up clearly on where he stands on what's taking place and what the solution is. When the convoy hadnt reached Ottawa he had stressed importance of peaceful protest, but that was what now seems like a lifetime ago when this was seen as being about a cross-border trucker vaccine mandate and before Ottawa was sent into the state it's in now. If anyone's seen anything from the past week or so, please share. As Michael Chong showed, it's possible to speak strongly from a Conservative perspective and to call for an end to what we're seeing. Larry is actually quite visible in this clip of Chong's speech and did give applause at the end, but really hope we see more that leaves no doubt to his perspective as our rep.
Separately, theres a lot more perspective via journalist I linked to earlier in this thread as he's been sharing ongoing accounts on Twitter from Ottawa... including last night a few video clips from Ottawa of organizer, representative, pseudo-representative. Between anti-vax talking points of the one representative or the organizer ("senior convoy leader") being quite firm in his use of Confederate flags, quite telling on who and what we're dealing with and why these are the last people you want speaking for even a minority collective of people that are occupying our capital city and making demands related to public health. A lot of folks with not-so-extreme viewpoints have been taken in by this based on various appeals to self interest... it's not too late to admit that this isn't what you thought it would be and that there are other ways within a democracy to express your voice and viewpoints.

I especially took note to the reference to how careful organizers are being with message control... for example sticking to references to "freedom" rather than vaccines.

Best to watch for yourself and form your own opinions as I know there are different perspectives that people see this from.

My two cents...

Respect the call for unity and turned down rhetoric in the initial comments. From comments it seems Larry is mainly of the viewpoint that this is still about trucker vaccine policy, the movement of goods and services and the Prime Minister inhibiting that with that policy that was initially a talking point when the convoy first started. In following the news since then that doesn't seem to be the case, with the occupation said to be in place until *all* mandates are lifted.
In the questioning afterwords when asked if he agrees with his Conservative MP colleague's comments (noted a few posts up) that it was time for protests to end I was surprised and disappointed to see the all-encompassing statement from our MP that...
"People of Brandon-Souris believe these peaceful protests are allowable. "
....Guess I was hoping for more after seeing some Conservatives including Chong recognizing what this has become, the impact it's having in the country and that there isn't a lot of good that can come from further occupation.

Military tow trucks.

The Canadian military only has 5 dedicated heavy rescue trucks with option of 26 more that can be converted from there primary use. That said that is in all of Canada. As heavy rescue experts have pointed out it would take days to tow them all if the truckers cooperated. They would be 30 minutes a truck to hook up plus travel time to where they will be stored. That is if they don’t have to hook air lines up to release the brakes or cage brakes if there is a air supply issue on the truck. And they would most likely need to winch some of them to a spot they can hook up. The truckers could all spend an hour and weave the trucks tight making it next to impossible to remove them in and sort of timely fashion.
On a separate note I wonder how many years till these thousands of tickets make it through the court system. You can almost guarantee 95% will fight the ticket in court which on traffic infractions the office who wrote the ticket will also have to show up.

No towing equipment necessary .
All of the vehicle occupants are now guilty of staging an occupation and should be treated as such.. Send in military and police , remove all protesters by force straight to jail. Qualified Military personnel can then drive seized vehicles to approved salvage yards where they can be stripped for parts and scrap- owners loss . Maybe a couple weeks to move vehicles out, problem solved. It’s time to stop messing around and take back control.

Situation getting more serious as the Ambassador Bridge blockade.
Doesn't sound like the intent is to show the same level of patience as in Ottawa with the serious economic implications. Because of that, would be especially disappointing for there to not be wider political support to address asap.

I have just been following the protests with a heavy heart and sadness at the chaos all this is causing.
From CBC news the following article shows that a lot of the trucks involved are basically truckers under contract but not direct employees.

I would like to hope that a lot of the contracts will be reviewed, with a view to termination, in the light of company logos that are on the trucks and bringing those firms into disrepute by association. Despite not being the companies trucks.
One assumes that the protest vehicles are being ticketed daily for parking violations and obstruction of a highway.
It seems that a minority of folks are basically holding a country to ransom and sticking two fingers up to the law. Maybe when this is all over and those participants are back to work, the loss of contracts and work will prove future deterrent to any further action.
I'm sure that they will take the easing of restrictions that are in the works as proof of their success, though that reasoning would be incorrect.
Sorry if this has been long winded and feeling sorry for all those folks affected.

Manitoba making it clear today that protests will not influence public health measures, which are in place to protect the health care system. Any future changes will be guided by state of COVID and data:

Province has said that hope and intent is for reduction of nearly all measures, to be replaced by recommendations into the Spring so long as virus continues on path that models show. This was stated before any convoy drove through on its way to occupying the national capital and it's reassuring to know that anti-restriction protests will not change the focus on fact and on decisions being based on informed guidance by public health experts.
The data over the past week has shown that despite the situation remaining serious, hospitalization numbers look to be turning in the right direction... seemingly not out of line with the models shown a couple weeks ago.
I still haven't seen one supporter of the convoy/occupation explain why we should even begin to consider further eliminating measures a few weeks early in this Province, risk undoing progress and risk serious consequence on our medical system when it's known that intent is to pull back measures in the not too distant future so long as safe. Plenty of room for discussion, but there's been and will continue to be zero tolerance policy on conspiracy theories and misinformation. Bring facts, bring real and verifiable sources and let's have a rational discussion .

The convoy was “slow-rolling” on the only highway to the only hospital in the area. He didn’t have a cell phone to call police or an ambulance for help and the convoy wouldn’t let him through. He feared deeply for his sister’s health. It took him over an hour to drive 3km before she could get the urgent care she needed.
This situation is completely and utterly unacceptable and it cannot be repeated. The Manitoba RCMP will continue to closely monitor these demonstrations and will not tolerate any blocking of roads or highways that lead to hospitals. We uphold and recognize the right to peaceful demonstrations. However, it is not a right to prevent fellow Manitobans from accessing emergency medical care. seem to want to be like the US, especially the deep conservative areas. They want the freedom to do whatever they want while restricting or denying freedoms for others.

They blame Trudeau for the current Equalization payment formula even though it was done under Harper. Blame Trudeau for working with China, yet it was Harper that signed the 33 year trade deal with China. They blame Trudeau for provincial COVID mandates. They blame Trudeau for everything.

Here is a good example of what I mean. Last summer I invited one of these guys over to a gathering I was having in my back yard. I knew him a bit from where I used to work. After pounding back three quick beers at my expense cause he brought nothing to the party he started to overtake conversations with his rants. Complained about gas prices, food prices, housing prices certain grocery stores he would never return to and on and on whining and complaining. Hated Trudeau and hated Pallister . Met his wife the other day at the grocery store she said he went to Ottawa to join the convoy. He’s not a trucker. He will never be at my place again. Hated everything.

Difficult to make as a blanket statement.
Complicated mix of people. It's definitely attracted your far-gone-conspiracy-theory, anti-vax, angry-social-media-poop-poster type that have had ability to see fact so walled off by the far-right movement's insistence on undercutting experts and media as fact-tellers. It's also definitely attracted the type that carry enough political rage to feel the need to slap a (expletive) (Prime Minister) bumper sticker on their vehicle. I’d think that these types are more likely to be carrying the more hateful signs/flags or to be the ones approaching Winnipeg schools encouraging kids to de-mask/not get vaxxed.
Somewhere within are people whose political preference benefits from what's going on and they don't quite have the voice inside that gets them over the hump to see that the end doesn't justify the means.

Also along for the ride are some that aren't especially hateful and just aren't privy to the facts on Covid and have been taken advantage of by a movement that plays to sense of nationalism and desires for Covid to be over and undermines traditional sources of fact. You might call it gaslit, a term that anyone following USA politics over the past half dozen or so years will be all too familiar with:

I wouldn't personally label the gaslit as a broadly angry or hateful group as much as those elements will be among. There'll be a lot within that wouldn't be caught dead with a "**** Trudeau" flag. Although I don’t agree with them blocking transport at the borders I do feel some empathy for the actual truckers who are wanting mandates removed. They are often on the road weeks at a time. When in the USA they are mask free. They don’t need to prove vacation to have a sit down meal. In most of the states it’s life as it’s 2019 still. Then they come home and they can’t go into a restaurant masks everywhere. A lot of recreational activities have been on and off closed completely over the last 2 years. I know many people truckers i:ncluded some vaccinated some not suffering from depression as most of there social life had been cut off. Any help for depression is so backlogged it’s almost not worth trying. I get we need to watch hospital capacities but mental health issues are rising due to this to along with huge economic losses especially in small businesses who have now lost everything. I would say keep the mask open everything up to everyone. See how it goes then after a few weeks if it has not had huge impact remove masks.

Nice clear faces make good pictures to track them down after and lay charges.

The videos are the greatest as they not only show people but the items around them plus we thank them for saying their names.

Thanks for posting comments pictures on social media where it spreads and makes it even easier to identify you.

Thanks for your card and trucks licence plates that make it easier to track you down and if you get away from a protest we know where you are.

Thanks for driving a truck with a company logo on it even if you are contracted to work. That way company can fire you plus sue for so much that you
Loss your truck.

Thank you for ability to identify yourself so all can lose or be suspended from drivers licence. Try getting a job without a licence. Hard.

I wouldn’t thank you for bringing your children and the way they have been treated. Even when you get home Children’s Services will be knocking on your door. Once they are involved in your life hard to get rid of even for the next generation.

Thank to organizers for showing Canada the flaws and abuse of crowd funding. In this case follow ups need to be done by Revenue Canada to make all money traceable and taxable to organizers.

It is no place to have horses. There is no where to keep them properly taken of. The noise and crowds are very hard on horses.

It is no place for dogs. Same arguments. No matter place to Properly take care of them safely including sleeping and feeding. From the freezing temperatures Noise and crowds make all dogs nervous and angry.

If dogs lose their cool and attack police they may be injured or killed. They may also be so wound up they attack others in your group. Dog fights will happen for sure with dogs that don’t know each other.

Carbon dioxide poisoning which is a silent killer is a real danger to everything.

When I look at the people that I personally know in some way, the people that support it are overwhelmingly the ones that seem the most educationally challenged. 2) Contrarians. We all know this guy. You say the sky is blue, he claims it is pink with yellow polka-dots. Often, mixed with irrational* Trudeau hate. If Trudeau was anti-mask and anti-mandate, you just know they would be advocating lockdowns with 24 hour stay-at-home orders. (*disliking Trudeau is not irrational, he's made quite a few missteps since becoming PM.)

I am far from elite. This has nothing to do with education level. I know smart people who dropped out of high school (back when that was viable), but have learned all sorts of concepts throughout their lives, and can easily incorporate new information. By educationally challenged, I was talking about those that no matter how many times a concept is explained, they just don't grasp it. Not only that, they are proud of their thoughts and figure they're the smartest in the room.

Yeah, it's not politically correct to say so, but one just has to watch coverage of the participants for a few minutes to see that there is an enormous lack of a willingness to learn or apply basic logic: and yeah, many just aren't very smart.

Frankly, a large part of the problems we have politically is that for the last number of decades there has been a backlash against expertise. I am sick of it. The opinions of the uneducated should not carry the same weight as experts. If that makes me elitist, so be it.

Yeah, it's not politically correct to say so, but one just has to watch coverage of the participants for a few minutes to see that there is an enormous lack of a willingness to learn or apply basic logic: and yeah, many just aren't very smart.

Frankly, a large part of the problems we have politically is that for the last number of decades there has been a backlash against expertise. I am sick of it. The opinions of the uneducated should not carry the same weight as experts. If that makes me elitist, so be it. "

It’s embarrassing to me that anyone from the agricultural community would take part in or support these protests and disruptions. I will have no part in it and offer only condemnation.

I agree we’re all a little fed up with the relative social isolation but….
1. US also requires vaccination to cross the border so that negates any beef the truckers have on that issue.
2. It’s just a little freakin’ mask! It doesn’t hurt!! Tough it out a little longer and we’ll get through it.

Remember nobody bombed your village today and you don’t have the Russians amassing their military at your border.
