"I think as we move past this and more info makes its way out we’re going to find out that this is a lot more complicated and interconnected situation than it seems on the surface where one action if taken in the wrong way can trigger other actions that will make this a lot worse. I see people criticizing various politicians in Ottawa and in Ontario for what they haven’t done so far, but I’m confident that they’re working with a lot more info than we see publicly and being advised by people with a lot of knowledge in trying to find the right balance that minimizes the chance for violence.
Something I’ve noticed is that there’s an element of this not fully represented in a lot of news coverage. Between crazy rogue purported army major’s unhinged rant shared by those closely aligned with the convoy, to organizers swearing in their own “peace officers,” to our ambassador to the UN referring to mandate protests as a “pretext for a well financed and well armed assault” there’s a regression here that seems at least plausible that they’ll be making every effort to stop from happening. There will absolutely be a plan to work toward where this needs to go and absolutely a plan to respond depending on any escalation but am guessing there’s a lot of caution to not appear heavy-handed at the moment.
One thing in watching some of the independent live streams on social media from Windsor … whether it’s stream hosts using their phone to broadcast or the people that they “interview,” I seriously underestimated just how much Dunning-Kruger looks to be at play here and a sort of group bias confirmation. Even as blocking a major trade route and as provinces have already made it clear that restriction removals are naturally on the way, you still have people repeating the same far-out there stuff and ultimately adding to the divisiveness of this as it looks more and more about government and less about COVID. When you have so many people that convince themselves of some of these factually shaky narratives and then put them in the same place they can really re-enforce those views further. I still don’t think it’s obvious to a lot of supporters from a far just what it is they’re supporting.

There will be much behind the scene that we are not aware of. This protest is full of volatile people who are flying the confederate flag and displaying the swastika. We do not want this to end in violence as it will only create sympathy for the protesters.
But this does anger me as they represent a small portion of Canada and yet they are being given a global voice. People like these protesters all over the world will stand in solidarity with outrageous claims and demands....I want to call them scumbags but know I shouldn't....to stand with the protesters here in Canada. They claim to stand for freedom and yet they lie, misrepresent facts and shout down anyone who would try to reason with them.
For anyone who reads this and can stay calm I applaud your ability to do so. I can not be calm. These protesters do not speak for this Canadian.
