I have texted all my family to ensure ok.  
 
There is reports highway was a skating rink.  
 
Closing before?  
 
I know west and east of Brandon have been a skating rink since rain Saturday. Why have it opened if no way to clear off ice?  
 
And the obvious question no one seems to ask is in this day and age of so many discoveries has not something like a solution for ice on road not been invented.  
 
And environmental group stay out of it unless you have a better idea.

Salt has no effect below -15 and sand had no effect below -25. Sand just blows off in traffic and doesn't stay on the road.  
 
Short of putting a jet engine on a truck and melting the ice, there really aren't other solutions.

Salt doesn’t work, sand doesn’t work, anyone ever heard of winter abrasive.

Veterans Way was wet and mainly bare in several stretches tonight at 5-yet it has been extremely icy the past few days. Why? It looked to be heavily sanded and salted yesterday and today. It started melting off good yesterday and today was even better. So, it's not quite accurate to say salt and sand doesn't work in these temperatures-it doesn't work as well, but it sure helps, especially when used generously.

10 south is getting better. First 8 miles south of Brandon they have basically gravelled. Or Pretty heavy sand anyways. Good roads are in sight. Spring is coming!!

I went to Brandon for some parts yesterday and noticed some areas on #2 where there was fog rising from the road surface and a small amount of melting happening. The only thing I could think of was the asphalt beneath the ice was absorbing a certain amount of solar heat.

You kinda knew this was gonna happen. They need to space the trucks out instead of letting all hell break loose. The roads were closed for a reason drivers need to take caution. Plus there’s nothing worse than brand new pavement for being slick. As far as coming up with new ways to get ice off the roads well sure let’s maybe put in floor heat in. It’s Canada drive smart.
