West End Development? (Dollarama number four)

Has anyone heard anymore on the West End Development slated for the 34 th Sobeys location? Isee the green background board up for what someone says will be a Dollar Store but not much other activity. You would think that business places would like to be up and running for the Christmas season.

Drove by yesterday, green signage and dollar signs all over the walls, shelving is built. So looks like its not too far off.

We walked by there today. They are stocking shelves etc.

The rest looks like it's occupied by Kulberg's? I think it is using it as warehouse space? Pallets of stuff etc anyway.

Is moving into their newly built/under contruction warehouse on 18th St N beginning this week. The space they've been occupying will be vacant soon.

This is fact from someone who works there.

About the worst kept secret there is at this point, but the great big Dollarama logo and "Dollarama coming soon" on the site plan on the Colliers website about clinches it I'd say

Fingers crossed that we start seeing the self checkouts that they're putting in stores elsewhere. FWIW Dollarama site still shows just our three 18th street stores.

But what about the Dollar Tree that is just a couple blocks up Vic Ave? The west end has had something like this already for years.

I will bet when they open the west end Dollarama they will close the one at 809 18th Street. To small a location, and terrible parking/access.

No plans to shut any of the stores. One in all 4 locations.

Won’t happen, this store is always crazy busy and is super central. It’s definitely weird to see three all with 18th street addresses but they each serve distinct purposes where they are. Dollarama is insanely popular and the city can handle four!

That we're no different than anywhere else. My parents live in Transcona. They have the same selection of stores in roughly the same proportions with roughly the same population as us.

Haven’t heard it’s closing. Heard there was talk of rebuilding it but I think that plan was shelved

With an extremely high degree of certainty, this Sobeys is going nowhere and don’t be surprised to see renos in the pipeline. Pretty important store actually for folks in the West end!

Went in to the new Dollarama store yesterday and had no idea how much space there was . It’s gigantic in length and lit up nicely as well. Can’t wait to see which other new tenants will occupy the other available spaces.

This city is like a freestanding suburb. None the less, I don't mind another affordable option.

I lived most of my first 28 years in Transcona, then moved to Brandon in 05. Same vibe, similar size etc.

Would be a good location for Giant Tiger to move to. Their store seems so crowded with their narrow aisles not to mention trying to exit left out of their parking lot.

IMO.. Giant Tiger is best where it is.. they have tons of room to expand their current building to the east or west. Which also IMO they should expand.
