Hey everyone. I was approached today in a parking lot. Guy saying he needed to buy gas and would sell me his chain and ring for $100 It is stamped 18K. I have experience in this and it is all fake. It is base medal and work NOTHING!!! Please do not buy this for any amount as you will just end up with worthless crap. It is not gold plated and is the furthest thing from 18k you can get. Please be careful and aware.

Who would be stupid enough to buy “Gold” from some guy in a parking lot?

Definitely a scam and a big need for caution. This was happening a few months ago all over southern Manitoba.  
It was reported in the Brandon and Westman area too.

The people selling this stuff pray on people who don't understand. Elderly are a prime target. They cry crocodile tears, sometimes have kids with them who look sad. Some people are genuinely good and want to help. The people selling these products are the bad guys in this. There are people who get suckered into all these scams every single day. Most are stupid just naive.

Never mind gold, ANYTHING being sold in the parking lot. Speakers are another common scam.

Got to experience this for the first time on Friday, pulled into Walmart and i prefer to park way out close to Michaels.  
 
On the way in I noticed a black SUV with 4 or 5 people clustered around it at the very edge of the lot, one of them a very attractive woman.  
 
Thought nothing of it until I'm getting close to my truck I get approached by the attractive woman claiming that her car was stolen at husky and if i could spare some money to help her get home, couldn't help but laugh, I wanted to tell her off but maintained composure and politely told her no.  
 
As I sat there in my truck for a couple minutes i watched and all of them just wandered around, looking for marks i suspect.  
 
I assume they just go from town to town targeting parking lots, I was tempted to call the cops but what are they going to do, they are hamstrung by our justice system and these people know it.

Walmart has a strict policy that nothing like soliciting or begging is allowed in their stores or parking lot.  
 
Advise the business and managers or their security will ask them politely to move. If they don’t or get nasty then police are called.  
 
Phoning people owning the property is another step to take.  
 
Please don’t say elderly are the ones falling for this. High Majority are more experienced and street wise.

Thanks for the information. By the time anyone is contacted my guess is the "seller" is long gone.  
I would like to make it clear I didn't say ELDERLY were falling for this scam. I said they were often the TARGETS. My experience is anyone and everyone can be suckered in.
