Another accident at 18th Street & Braecrest Drive today.  
How many more accidents & deaths do we have to have at that intersection, before something is done???

A center merge-in left lane is the answer. I have seen many in BC. The lane is exclusive to left lane turning when coming in off Braecrest. That driver going south then will only have to yield to traffic on the left. The right traffic has to move over to right lane and allow an easy merge. They only have to create some median curbs.  
Cost effective and safe.

When have there been deaths ? Should just put a traffic circle there if they can’t do lights .

Keep in mind many tractor trailers use 18th to access the Trans Canada. Not feasible to navigate standard traffic circles towing a 52' trailer (or even a tandem unit). For the same limitations, also not practical to place lights at 18th & Braecrest because it would require starting out with a loaded trailer up the incline of 18th heading north.

A woman died at an accident at that intersection in 2016.

Makes sense, they have them at intersections on the highway in Alberta that work just fine for semis! Please people stop making excuses on what would work and not work, just do something!

It's impressive that trucks are able to get to the Flying J just outside Regina by navigating the traffic circle they installed on the Trans Canada.  
 
This and the traffic circle at Portage La Prairie are proof that trucks can navigate traffic circles.

You could go back as far as the mid 70's when two teenage girls were killed at that intersection.

Large trucks can navigate some traffic circles but a traffic circle on a hill doesn’t work for Semis in the winter in snow and ice conditions. When a Semi leaves The Corral center empty and goes up the hill, if they loose momentum or get slowed down by other traffic there is the possibility of spinning out trying to maneuver around the circle.

This suggestion makes 100% perfect sense!

Maybe if they are worried about spinning out on the hill they could take the eastern access.

There may not be enough room but ya only other option is a traffic light . And yes trucks can stop and go on a hill. Anyone who’s been to med hat can clearly see they have lights at the top of way bigger hills . It’s not rocket science and all department of transportations will focus on is sand and salt on the hills like they do everywhere else . That’s pretty much the end of this discussion lol either they put in lights or just put up with that intersection.

They could only allow right turns at that intersection. Then connect quail ridge dr to mockingbird drive and use the lights at peavy mart. And extend braecrest west to the field then go north and connect it to outback drive. Or do traffic circle at peavy mart lights and on kirkaldy. Keep right turns only at breacrest. This will only detour a few blocks rather then waiting too turn right at busy times. Then truck traffic won’t be stopping on a hill in winter. We all complain about how long it takes the city to sand/salt there will be issues there.

Right turn in, right turn out is the only solution for 18th st and Braecret and should be done immediately. At the lights at the intersection of 18th st, Mockingbird can barely hold 5 vehicles so connecting Quail Ridge Drive to Mockingbird is just one bad idea. Its bad enough around there as it is around lunch time and at 5pm.  
 
One big traffic circle at 18th st, ,, Mockingbird and the service roads can work minus logistic issues with hydro. Having Claire Ave connected from the 18th st side and 1st st side would take some of the traffic away from Brarecret. That wouldn't be all bad thing with all the development adjacent to Braecrest (another goof up by the city just like Kircaldy Dr is.  
 
 
Extending Claire Ave so it both sides (18th side and 1st st) can take some of the traffic away from Braecrest. That can only be only a good thing seeing that city allowed development adjacent to Braecrest (another bad goof up just like all the development along Kircaldy Dr)  
 
How many more needless accidents need to happen before the city and province actually does something is the question?

The rental development on Braecrest Drive has expanded and continues to expand contributing to more traffic flow. And an increasing amount of pedestrian traffic with only one pedestrian crossing with lights. Vehicle and pedestrian traffic will increase even more with the new rental units being built behind Kullbergs. Can any of these roads ( Quail Ridge, Mockingbird) handle the increase?

Just put lights at that intersection. It is not a steep hill for trucks . The timer can be adjusted for the flow . There are steeper hills with lights that see winter . If you don’t drive a semi then you really don’t have an input on stopping on a hill . It’s the cheapest option then moving roads to make it work .

I work at Kelleher's. Cumberland Ave can barely hold 5 vehicles from the intersection of Mockingbird and the service road that goes north. Any more additional traffic that goes onto Mockingbird makes a congested area even worse.

Put up lights on 18th Street & Braecrest Drive.  
If the Semis can't maneuver the lights on the hill, they should take 1st Street.

If the senmis are sliding around trying to get going from a stop at the top of the hill on 18 th St .... Just how are they going to get to 1 st St. Grow wings and fly over....

Well first off they wouldn’t be stopped on 1st hill . Second. Again if the department of highways keeps it clear like they do anywhere else they will be fine . It’s not a steep hill . You all act like we are in BC . Trucks will be fine .

It may not work for everyone, but what if the drivers at either stop sign came to a complete stop and waited until it was safe to proceed?

mind blown lol . That is a pretty good one . If only they could do this . lol in reality that’s by far the best suggestion.

The Province has strict guidelines for intersections on sloped streets. I can't recall what the maximum grade is for permitting a stop signal on a sloped street, but I am certain that the intersection at 18th Street and Braecrest Drive isn't a great candidate.

drivers seem to think the those red octagon signs with STOP wrote on the are just a suggestion and until there is real enforcement and tickets handed out nothing will change.  
 
I believe if traffic laws where vigorously enforced many of these accidents would not happen.
