This is a bit of a pet peeve for me about drivers in Brandon. Something to watch out for, and do the best to avoid an accident. Please be better drivers people.

Hallelujah & Amen! Someone else who knows it's wrong! but expect a lotta that in Brandon.  
 
Especially be careful when you're also turning into a lane... the ones in the wrong think they're right and get upset because I took MY right of way in my correct lane while they were turning into the wrong one.  
 
Sometime don't you just wish you could issue Citizen's citations? I'd be givin' them out all day.

It would also be nice if cyclists learnt the rules of the road.  
Bicycles do NOT always have Right-Of-Way and they must follow traffic laws... especially page 17.

OK, since we’re talking pet peeves, my latest one is people who don’t know how to turn their tail lights on when it’s dark and just drive with daytime, running lights,. I have flashed my high beams at people and they don’t even notice. It’s dangerous to drive like that, especially in winter. Please make sure that your tail lights are on

I always hated having to do that when going to Sobeys south and coming west on Richmond and turning south, then needing to instantly be in right lane to turn into Sobeys parking lot.  
 
The turning curve for eastbound traffic going south makes it even that much more dangerous  
 
I always told myself afterwards that i should just go west and come in at the next set of lights, but never did.  
 
But really annoying when someone does it and then goes for blocks in that lane

I’ve noticed people signal entering a traffic circle and I wonder why when they only have one way to go and that’s entering the traffic circle. Signaling when exiting a traffic circle seems correct.

For the amount of time it takes to turn the knob/switch on!! It's even more "fun", when it's snowing out and a white vehicle ignores turning on their headlights and their tail lights are off!!  
We have become way too comfortable in a society when things are "automatic". Don't get me started about asking someone, "What's your phone number?" and the usual reply is "Huh, number? What's a phone number?"

Daytime running lights was one of the worst things the gov forced upon us. Would have been much much better if they had simply mandated full headlights, taillights, clearance lights whenever the park brake is released (for standards) , or transmission taken out of Park (for automatics)!

Yes you are correct, thats the way the drivers manual says to do it, and I find it very hard to break myself of doing it the correct way. But in this fast paced world where everybody wants everything instantly the proper way is out the window. In many cases if you are turning left and intend to merge to the right lane the little car behind you will zip around your right side before you even know it. I have several pet peeves including impatient drivers who follow so close it seems as if they are pushing you. And how about the driver who sits at the flashing green arrow asleep.

Okay, I’m gonna admit something and don’t attack me….lol. I NEVER think about my lights. I was told by my salesman that I didn’t ever need to worry about it as they would turn on when needed. Even when I’m driving, if it gets dark, they automatically come on. The only time I touch my lights is when I want to put my brights on.  
 
Am I driving around with no taillights and don’t know it???

Get someone to stand behind your car and when you put it in drive and let off the brake. see if your taillights come on when it’s dark or park against something you can see yourself. Most domestic manufacturers have the low beams, markers and tail lights come on automatically when the sensor on the dash reads it’s dark. There should be an auto function on the light switch. Most domestics will turn the tail lights on when dark. A lot of the imports and economy priced cars do not.

Will admit that I do not always turn into the correct lane as per the drivers guidelines. It is usually because I need in the curb lane right away. As was mentioned in this day of todays drivers I notice that if you do not hammer the gas down at a stop sign then other person will. People BARELY STOP anymore. You have no idea how many times if you follow the guidelines re 4 way Stop signs, people will roll up to one and accelerate even though ot should be my turn. 4 way Stops, if 2 approach at the same time it is Yield to the vehicle on your right. My pet peave.

Hmmm...I was taught to use my left signal light while remaining in the roundabout to alert drivers that I was not ready to exit and to only use the right signal light when I was ready to do so. But, when I look online, there's no requirement to use the left light, so I'll be refraining from using it in the future. It would be nice if everyone used the right one to let traffic know when you are exiting...crystal balls are not very effective for this purpose - lol.

Crosswalks  
People in brandon do not understand crosswalks... there are 3 types; unmarked, marked and lighted and the amount of people that run cross walks with people waiting to cross or already crossing is scary.... literally had someone pull around me at one with a senior using a walker in crosswalk... I thought I was gonna have to perform first aid in an alarming accident

I have found my people. If I had the power to give out citations for driving and parking I would be heaven (I am a handicapped space user and a I have a permit and it is hard to find a spot as people are "just there for a minute").  
 
The problem with the "auto headlights" I think are the brightness if the new headlights as it tricks the sensor to think it is not needed. I did see a street light once turn out and then back on because a vehicle drove by. And being in a smaller car (Soul) If you have a huge truck behind you it will blind you. Give me the head lights you have to turn on manually please.  
 
Another thing is backing up in parking lots. Everyone figures you have a back up camera or sensors and just continues to drive as they don't see you even when you are almost 1/2 way out of the spot.. Heads up, Those white lights at the back means I am backing up. I defiantly do a lot of shoulder checking prior and while I am backing up. But when other people do I find most just rely on their cameras or just don't care. There have been several times where I had to hit the back of a vehicle as they started to back up as I was walking behind (They were not in reverse)  
I'm sorry if this make me sound like I think I am righteous or something but I have been hit as a pedestrian twice, one because the ran a stop sign (I was thrown into 1st St) and the second while crossing a crosswalk, I was more than half was done. These were both over 25 years ago so the amount of distracting driving wasn't as high.  
 
I hope that there are safe drivers out there, I have had my license for 25 years and I have never had an accident or a ticket. I actually volenteer for Operation Red Nose every year this would have been my 14th conwcutive year.

I fully understand that this forum is merely a "sound board" and that the more we express our points of view or rants won't change a thing? It's comforting to know that we are 'not alone' when we witness and become subject to those points.  
However, today's weather is a prime example of my concern about 'driving lights' and the ignorance of whether tail lights or lack there of are concerning? I had to venture out for a moment and can honestly say, that there was not one car near me who had their tail lights on!  
There are reasons why Environment Canada issues weather warnings and yes, 'fog conditions' is one of them. It's great that drivers may see you approach them, but make it difficult when you come up on them from behind? Just saying ;)

Almost got smoked crossing at the crosswalk on 18th by Compass Credit Union. One guy stopped but the next land a truck flew through the intersection and almost took me out. People just don't care. Everyone's in such a hurry all the time that there's no morte time for common courtesy, let alone actual traffic laws. It's almost to the point where it would be fitting to start a campaign to have pedestrians carry bricks with them as they cross the street, just in case. I know there's some pedestrians out there that, like some cyclists, act like complete fools around moving vehicles, but it's also frustrating for those of us that don't have vehicles as well.
