flooding issue in SE Bdn

Front page Bdn Sun, story re: flooding/sewer backup. This is a big pain in the neck (not mention money drain)for those of us who suffer with this and the threat of it. Here it is almost 4 years later(2005) and what has been done. In 2008 a bit of storm sewer pipe replacemnt, building of a lift station by Crocus ( behind schedule) so that further work on sewer pipes going north on 9th south of Richmond was put on hold til this spring/summer, we were told ( hopefully work will proceed) but no guarantees. All this started firstly with the reconfiquration of Cdn Tire and the construction of Sobeye's and Staples, water started to collect on the ball diamond and walkway south of the construction ( this never happened before , we've lived here for 32yrs), then the huge housing developement took place( on a natural draining area) south of us on 9th and all hell broke loose! The city in my estimation was so gobsmacked that the area was going to be developed that the infrastructure to support such a project was totally ignored. And we now are facing the fallout. There has been countless ward meetings with engineering and contractor input and it's all a bunch of crap. We thankfully have a couple of people at the meetings who live in the ward with the technical background to know what should be but even they can't get anywhere with the city hall bunch. It's all double talk.
