Q about buying back a car from Autopac....

So I found out yesterday that they were writing off my car after my claim from the hail storm...
My question to anyone who knows is, if I buy back my van (vehicle in question) and it is collateral on a personal loan is the excess $$ from autopac required to go towards the loan? Or is it money in pocket that can go towards RRSP's or savings?
