no cars for a day?

I am tossing around an idea of "no car for a day" for downtown brandon in june.
ultimately this would close down a portion of downtown to cars. People would park at safeway parking lot on 10th or somewhere yet to be determined. People would use other modes of alternative transportation such as transit to get to downtown. Businesses in the downtown area would be encouraged to have sidewalk sales to draw customers. Entertainment on the street and a social gathering. benefits of this would be community and social interaction, reduce greenhouse gases by a significant amoutn, decrease noise by vehicles, and awareness of alternative transportation and healthy living.
