I have been thinking for a few years now that it would be neat to have a contest run where the cleaning of the sidewalk be the main idea.How it would work is any individual can register there block at the start of winter.Then over the course of the winter someone or a committee would rate the blocks that have been registered.Especially after major storms such as the one we had to dig out from yesterday. Incidently if I had to rate yesterday clearing abilities for the street I live on I would rate it 9.7 points out of 10.Why because all the sidewalks where cleaned the full width on both sides of the street.As far as I know only 1 person used a snowblower to do the cleaning of the sidewalk for himself and the two neighbors on each side of him.The snowblower he used was electric so not as many deductions for that as a gas jobber.The east/west sidewalks where also cleaned which in my books is a bonus.Normally these sidewalks are never cleaned.Now like all contest there should be a reward/prize if your block is deemed the best maintained block in the city.I'm thinking that a block party during the summer would be a prize where I could provide and supply the cooking of some food.Look into maybe getting some businesses donate some prizes to be handed out at the block party.So what you think would this work.Is there any individuals that would be willing to enter there block or side of street and get the neighbors involved in such a contest.I know the area I live in it seems the sidewalks are cleaner this winter then they ever have been.I don't know maybe I'm starting to wear off on some people in the area after 7 years of cleaning the sidewalk on my side of the street the full width and down to the cement.So what you think are you willing to meet this challenge for you and your neighbors.Would like some feed back from individuals that are interested in seeing something like this come to life.I'm thinking it would need at least 10 half block entries to make the contest interesting.If at the very least a contest as such would be a good way to build some community/neighborly spirit and pride. If there is even enough interest for a contest to start this year I would be willing to see it through and provide the food at a block party this summer.
