Brandon Police to receive 9.25% raise

I see the BPS and the City of Brandon came to a nice agreement on the new Police contract. According to the article it is a 22-month contract that provides sworn members with pay raises of 4.75 per cent and 4.5 per cent in 2010 and 2011, respectively. Non-sworn members, meanwhile, will see wage hikes of 2.75 per cent for both this calendar year and next.
Meanwhile Mayor Burgess was quoted saying he admits that the wage increases may be hard for some taxpayers to swallow, allowing the contract discussion to progress to the arbitration stage would likely have yielded the same result.
Not bad for the boys in blue!!! Considering they can't afford to build a new Police station within the City's tight budget they can afford to dish out well over $500,000 in the next two calendar years in salaries.
I wonder where the City will make up the extra cash from???
