We have Ichneumon in our tree
6/13/2010 at 7:41 PM
Ok so while we were mowing the lawn today we discovered these insects around the base of one of our trees. We steered clear (for the most part) because we didn't know if they were harmful or not. Of course I went back to get pictures to see if anyone had any advise. We looked in one of our "encyclopedia" type books and discovered their name..."Pigeon Tremex Ichneumon" They look fierce but are, apparently, a non-stinging wasp. I'm now looking for info on how to get rid of them, or if we even need to be concerned. We have a four year old daughter who has no fear when it comes to bugs, but I think she's safe. We have got a female in a jar and are just looking for some info and advise. I've added some pics to this chat for those in the know.
