Tile layer??

So we were having a conversation the other day about my mom's new house and they were talking about how much they had to pay to get their tile laid by someone. So that got me thinking... this might be a good line of work to get into.
Does anyone know how you get into this line of work and what kind of places employ them.
I know someone who really needs a job and I think this would be a good job for them.
