VLT's - Is this normal practice

So...I go with my sister who is visiting from out of town to the (business name removed) as she wanted to put $20.00 in the VLTs. I put in my $20.00 and the machine eats my money...something like "money misfeed...contact person at desk" comes up...so I go to the counter and tell the girl...she comes with me and as we get closer to the machine she says "Oh...I figured it was that machines...it is always eating 20s". So she fiddles with it...but it is not where she says it normally is...then she goes and gets some other guy...he fiddles a bit and then they come back with the manager...she fiddles with it a bit and says that they can't find it...if they do, when they count up their cash (I believe she said on Monday or Tuesday) that if I leave my drivers licence they will call me. Couple of things about this bother me....the machine had the message on it that there was a problem with the money feed and to contact the server or whataver so I didn't make it up and she says that "if" they find extra money to the tune of $20.00 they will call me (like I made it up...read the message on the screen). Secondly I am to leave a photocopy of my drivers license with them in order to claim this money "if" they find an extra 20?? I absolutely refused to do this ... why do they need my drivers license...I am happy to leave my name and show ID when I come to pick it up. I highly doubt they will ever call so I am out $20.00. I think since the machine showed the message...since the girl says that that particular machine "always eats $20's" that they for the sake of customer service could have given me my $20.00. What does everytone else think?
