My husband and I went for a walk tonight. We always take the same route... down 26th Street, and along the Bike Path by the community gardens on Maryland Ave. The road is of course ripped up along there as they are repaving it.

I look toward the area where they have barricades up and signs that say ROAD CLOSED and a blue SUV looks like it's about to turn down 20th Street and NOPE... she drives DOWN THE BIKE PATH AND RIGHT TOWARD US!!!!

We tried to stop her... she wouldn't stop the car and kept rolling toward us even though I was standing in front of her front bumper/drivers side fender! I had to move as she wouldn't stop.

My husband gives her a shake of his finger and shakes his head at her... she points at the road as if to say "it's ripped up and I can't drive there" and just keeps going... and not only did she keep going.... SHE SPED UP!!! She did well over the 50km speed limit of the ROAD and went right to the end and off the boulevard and onto 26th street.

I am sincerely glad she didn't kill anyone as the people who were gardening had young children playing on their bikes on the path.

Sadly... I was so shocked I didn't get her license plate number to turn her in!
I am sickened by the act of someone so careless!

wondering how long before someone did that because they couldn't drive the route they always take.

My husband saw the car from our kitchen window which was driving on the bike/ walk way. What crazy person does that? There are people walking, running or biking from that walkway all the times. Some time whole family with little kids with their bikes. I was biking there about half an hour before that crazy lady drove there and I saw children beside road at gardening place. I wish my husband could get her licence plate number.

I wonder if the city could put up some barricades on the sidewalk/bikepath, so that people can walk around them but not drive. I think it would be worth a call tomorrow.
I would be so angry if I were you as well.. I can't understand people, and then thinking that she had some right to do it...

that driver had any brains, there should be no need for the city to put barricades at the walkpath ends.

Unfortunately, common sense isn't so common anymore. You would think that barricades would help but I bet they would push them over or even drive around. Some people seem to have the mindset of what can benefit them and not anyone around them.

Stupid, absolutely, and I'm glad OP that you and no one else were hurt. BUT thanks for the morning laugh. I have thought of doing the same thing since last summer every time I was driving on that atrocious street and looked over at the beautiful, black topped bike path. Always thought it was kinda pathetic that the bike path was so perfect and the street was ridiculous. Can't wait til it's fixed, but I always wondered if my car would fit down the path. Now I know. And NO I am not going to try it. LOL (now, let the bashing of my post begin, since no one has any humor ever.)

Reminds me of a youtube page called Stop a Douchebag. Apparently its a big problem in Russia. So some pedestrians have taken up stopping people driving down walking paths and making them back up and go back to where they started. If they don't they stick a giant sticker on their windshield that's really hard to get off.

but my guess is that she sped up in order to get off the path quickly as she realized the stupidity of her decision.

I use that path frequently on my bike, Apparently I will have to keep sharp in the future to avoid a collision with oncoming vehicles.

I've seem this before,sadly some don't follow the same laws everyone else does, until it costs them a big fine.
I know it's tough to think about getting a plate number in this situation, but please if you do get clear id of the car, report this incident to the police. Afterall, it is every did as dangerous to pedestrians as someone driving drunk.

If this happens too often that lovely walking ain't going to be lovely any more. I also wonder if that lady has such a sense entitlement she felt it was her right or was something else going on like an emergency or she was distracted then embarrassed so she forced her way through. Amazing!!

That's why she sped up... sorry I didn't mean she was speeding in general.

It kind of made me laugh as the car actually came a little off the ground when she hit the end of the bike path

I'm sure she was panicking at that point.

A few years ago direct traffic sign person was stopping cars on Garwood at Richmond Ave, they were repaving Richmond Ave. She told me to just drive down the walking path. I refused to and said they need to be back at the intersection so you had an exit route. I ended up going on the new pavement. I was driving a bus.

tonight a big diesel truck was driving down the dike road. Some people figure rules and law does not apply to them.
