I've seen both cars and semis regularly either just slow down heading north/south but not actually stop or they just blow right through. Those are the ones I'm assuming don't even notice the stop sign. I'm sure they have no clue how lucky they are that they didn't kill someone, or themselves.  
 
As someone who drives that route daily I'm always hyper-vigilant when I get close to that intersection.

There's not even any mention of this accident in the local paper which I find strange considering someone went to hospital in serious condition, yet they report on a minor fender bender where the vehicles involved don't even need to be towed. Also no mention in the police services media release. Strange.

Just because there was no newspaper coverage doesn't mean that we should let this slide. I drove that road tonight southbound on the 110. Why is there no reduced speed before the stop sign at Richmond???? Start there!!! To plow into someone at 90kmh...someone was nearly killed AGAIN.

Does no one stop to think that what you are writing can hurt? Do you think that the family of the victim in the pickup truck will not read what you are writing? I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that the family is reading it, how do I know this you may ask? Because the victim is my father, and yes he is expected to make a full recovery but he has a long hard road ahead of him. Even though this accident wasn't fatal it is still very scary for us. It's hard not to think about the what ifs, what if my father had not slammed on his breaks and cranked the wheel, what if the semi hit just a split second later. All those what ifs add up to a very bad, probably fatal situation. So for anyone to say that he wasn't paying attention, that he should have seen the semi coming, let me ask you this, would you have seen it coming? Would you have been able to stop it from happening? Maybe, maybe not, it's easy to sit at your little computer screen and say that it won't happen to you, but do you know that for a fact? Had you been in that situation do you know without a shadow of a doubt that it could have been prevented? No! You don't! Accidents do happen, to everyone! And if they don't happen to you well then you must be perfect! Alert the media! There is a perfect human being on planet earth! But to all the rest of us that do make mistakes, we are called humans for a reason, we aren't perfect but we try very hard to be the best version of ourselves that we can be. Yes, the semi ran the stop sign and no the semi didn't even try to stop, but only the driver of the semi will know for sure what happened. I have no ill will towards the driver of the semi, accidents happen, life gets messy and sometimes takes our concentration. I am just thankful that things weren't as bad as they could have been. My father is in the hospital in Winnipeg receiving excellent care from the medical staff, he is able to sit up for short amounts of time today but doing so makes him very tired. We see him get a little bit better every day and we thank god that someone was looking out for him that day and that we will get to spend many more years with our father. I implore each and every person to call or email our NDP MLA Drew Caldwell to please call for changes to this intersection. The Province of Wpg. may have blinders on, but there are highways out here in SW Manitoba. This might happen as it's an election year...Sad to say.  
 
I am so glad your Dad is doing ok! That is the most important thing.  

Lets try something different. Get a bit tired of sitting waiting for red lights when nothing's around. Drop in a mini roundabout, nice white circle painted on the road. Stick up the signs warning to Yield to those already in the roundabout.  
Mini roundabouts enable semi's to get round, the trailer runs over the thing. Everyone has to slow down yet not necessarily stop. Quite handy at 2am, while at shift change MapleLeaf, the line ups keep moving. Cheaper than lights, little maintenance. Of course, I suspect many may say, "Oh no, we can't do that here, we don't have them and many don't understand how to use them!" I think its a bit like computers, scary things at first, yet vast majority have them now and very few are actually killed by one ...
