we have on right in our front yard and it lights up more area than the old ones.

I like them. They keep the light on the road and reduce light pollution shining on houses.

We have one outside our bedroom window and it used to shine in it pretty bad, if the blinds weren't just right, it'd keep me up. The new ones don't do that, and they're brighter at street level.

They are awesome downtown! I hope all of the lights change to those.....they illuminate our dark streets and make them feel much safer. Great improvement!

I like that they are bright, and that these direct the light to where it should be...on the street rather than in the air. That is their primary purpose after all.  
 
I am wondering how well it will reduce light pollution out of town. I am hoping that as time goes on, more and more of these will be used and that light pollution is reduced in more than just the city.  
 
On a cloudy night, you can see the orange light reflecting and lighting up areas (air, ground and objects) up to a 45 min. drive away. In winter, it is worse...almost like an orange full moon lighting up everything. As the city has grown, so has the level of light pollution affecting the rural areas.  
 
I have often wondered what sort of affect the light pollution has had on plant and wildlife in particular. I know I sleep better with no artificial light interference. I imagine it is the same for them.  
 
So...I am all for this change. Keep it going!

And it has been found that light pollution affects navigation of birds, insects and other animals.

I find that they do a much better job of lighting the street and the boulevards, sidewalks and make it easier to see pedestrians at intersections. The light from them is almost identical in color to the old Mercury Vapor lights that were all removed in the early nineties. Those pink/orange Sodium bulbs just created a lot of glare and made everything on the sidewalks look black. From a driver's point of view they were worse than having no streetlights at all. It was almost impossible to see pedestrians wearing dark clothing, unless they were right under the streetlight. It would have literally been better to drive with just headlights. The new LED streetlights are a vast improvement over the Sodium lights.  
 
The LED's do look cold though, compared to the warm glow from the pink/orange lights, but I'd much rather have the far superior light output of the LED's.

our street had the lights replaced on Aug 11th. I was kinda excited,thinking we would have better lights at the busy intersection by our house. Our street has been in the dark since the change over.I have phoned hydro every day and was told that they would get the contractor to fix them. Today is 1 week being in the dark. Wonder if hydro should rethink who they hire to replace the lights.

I am excited to see if the new lights make any difference driving at night in the winter. The old lights didn't cut it, for me they just weren't bright enough, they just gave of a weird glow instead of a bright light.
