For months on end Brian Pallister has railed against the NDP increase to the PST. His shrill denounciations have been a regular feature of his party's communication, and that of his followers.  
 
Now he is saying that he may not roll it back immediately. He says that he will do it over four years.  
 
If he was being genuine with his statements that the increase was immoral and illegal, why would he then say that he would draw the benefit of that increase for up to four years ? If it was immoral and illegal for the NDP to collect the revenue, wouldn't it be equally immoral and illegal for the PC's to do so ?

The out of control spending & taxation by the Mb NDP cannot be brought under control in the first year of a new govt.  
This is an honest statement from Pallister although we have come to expect only dishonesty from the current govt.

but the feeling I have is that he will need it to try to dig us out of the huge huge hole the NDP has got us in. I'm sure the finances are a lot worse than anyone could even imagine and some tough choices will have to be made when the PC's get in.  

Was Pallister even in the country let alone the province during our last major flood ? ?

That I hate flip flopping but I agree with another poster that the mess we are in due to poor spending and money management over the last ten years cannot be undone in one year.  
 
I was not against a PST rate hike - I hate it and I think it is applied poorly (it should not be allowed on necessities like insurance) but it DID make some sense to do. I am in that lower tax bracket too - my take home pay does not leave much for extras, but it does not hurt that much over all.  
 
What I was against is the outright lies and breaking of laws to put it through - which is what the NDP did, even though they were found not guilty for whatever reason. It was very slimy what they did.  
 
Just like the GST drop when the conservatives promised it, I think they too, did it too quickly. I know it was one percent over each of two years, but that meant for some pretty big losses to revenue that might have been better spread over three or four years.

If it is wrong (morally, ethically, or legally) to collect that tax today, how can it be okay to collect it tomorrow and for four more years ? I could understand it taking three months to repeal it, but four years ?

that you can believe almost nothing that comes out of a politician's mouth. A perfect example of how they will say anything to get elected, then turn around and backpedal on their promises.  
Never did like that guy anyway.

Last election the NDP promised "NO NEW TAXES" and look what happened!  
 
Every time I make a expensive purchase and see the dollar difference between the GST and the PST, I'm pissed off!

Just kidding of course. But I am more confused now than when the campaign began as to whom I will vote for. At this point, it might be who's policies I disagree with the least that gets my vote.  
 
Which today - might actually be the Conservatives, even though they have been doing some pretty underhanded things, the other two are making promises that I simply do not agree with.
