I started buying applesauce, pudding cups and baby cookies for the young ones. If they're going to get dragged around in the cold they might as well get a treat they can eat  
 
OP, I am expecting there will be more out this year but I expect around the same number at our place. Only 10-15

age approprieat treats is probably a good idea but i have kind of changed my veiws over the years, imo new moms just want to get into the kid stuff (they dont know they have years and years lol) so they just want to show off their bundle and have some fun, nothing terrible about that, same with teens, id rather them come get candy and hve some fun, dressed up or not then terrorize the neighborhood, teens of all ages tho, not little or big rude brat's

I too don't get many kids maybe 20. Must have something to do with the cheap neighborhood I live in....when the kids look down the street and only see 3 or 4 lights on, they just move to the next one. Really too bad cause I really like to see the kids out.

One year I ended up giving pudding cups to a group of older kids (about 8-10 years) and as I closed the door I heard them yelling to their parents excitedly, "we got pudding!!" Who would have guessed it was such a cool treat lol  
 
We live on a street that has hardly any lit up houses on Halloween too The few that we do get are on their way to the bays behind us I think. Although, this year we have had some new families move onto the street and some town houses were built not too far from us so maybe the numbers will be up this year!!

Let's not just peg "moms with babies"? Really what about dads too? Maybe mom and dad are walking around with a 1 year old , 4 year old and 7 ur old? Who cares. If your going to be picky about who gets your candy maybe don't opt for handing it out for free?

I'm a grandma and I hope to be out Trick or treating with my small Grand daughter!  
 
I love the chance to enjoy all the joys of her childhood!  
 
So be kind when you meet up with me and my light of my life my two year old grand daughter!  
 
Pudding, chocolate, chips, pop, candies are all good items to be shared or some may end up on a ginger bread house closer to Christmas.

I've just moved into the area north of Giant Tiger. Anyone in that area who can give me an approximate number of kids from previous years. Want to make sure we have enough. Thanks!

with Halloween being on a Saturday this year, what time are parents letting their kids out? The last few years I've missed a bunch because when I get home at around 5 there were already kids out and about on my street... will it be the normal 5'o clock time or earlier? Just want to be prepared!!  
 
On a side note: drivers please remember to drive slowly on Saturday, and kids/parents please make sure to be careful when crossing streets and if possible have a glow stick or something to be seen easier!

Any parent out there able to put their input in as to when they're going to go out trick or treating? I'd like to be home and prepared!!

I think it's respectful to let families eat supper and then head out.  
 
5:30-6:00 is my own thought on reasonable time.

I am so excited to take my son out trick or treating for the first time this year! We plan to head out at 6!

Will shutting the lights off at the front door be good enough to keep treaters away? We have a dog with high anxiety issues. The constant door bell or knocking really upsets him.

When we took our kids around trick or treating that was always our way of thinking. If there were no lights on outside, we didn't ring the door bell, just went on to the next house.

If you don't want to participate please shut off all outside lights and close your blinds. Another great idea is to put out a bowl of candy on a table and a sign that says please take 1.

I usually see the smaller kids ( up to grade 1 or 2 )usually start about 4:30 around here.  
 
By 5 they are on the streets!

I was guessing that people with younger kids would be out around 4 but I'm not expecting anyone much before that.

I was hoping to start at 4:30 since the weather is not that nice. My daughter is 3 and probably won't last long in cold.

what time people are going out?

From what I've seen on the other discussions most are heading out between 5-6

Just would like to point out to those people who don't give to trick or treaters who look over a certain age... my daughter has always looked much older than she is. Very tall, developed early etc and has always been self conscious about it. At the age of 11 she went trick or treating with her younger brother and sister, fully decked out in Halloween costume and at many of the houses was actually told she was too old and they wouldn't give her treats.... she was very upset because these adults were now pointing out what in her mind was her biggest flaw. Please think about these things before you are so quick to judge... I personally am thankful when older kids would rather be out trick or treating than at parties underage drinking (sadly this happens even as young as 13) or causing mischief and damaging property...sometimes I'll even give them extra when they come to my door. My daughter is now 14 and has just asked if her and some of her team can try trick or treating instead of going to the "alcohol party" as she called it. So if you see a group of care bears come to your house please be kind, give them even the smallest thing you have, and applaud them for making smart decisions :-) I will be happy to do the same for your kids

Thank you. Exactly. My sister is 31 but has intellectual disabilities. She loves dressing up in her anime outfit (let's her use it more than the once for the anime-convention) and going out to Trick-or-Treat.  
 
My two 14 year old boys just left to go out for a bit. They don't want a lot, they aren't candy eaters. Their hopes is to get some for their all-nighter videogame-athon they are going to have. No parties. No alcohol. Just two well adjusted and polite teenagers looking for some candy to eat while they stay in tonight away from the parties and troublemaking.

Ashgrove Blvd @ Poplar... 6pm.

None here so far (Nvm, had one now!! Thanks for coming M and E lol)  
 
About 14 at the Inlaws who are a few blocks away
