I understand that some places it is hard to recruit qualified staff. But really hire the first person that walks in to have them leave with in a week.Perhaps there should be some kind of protocol or trial period to make sure they are a good fit for the company. It is very disturbing to the other staff when there is a high turnover in staffing.

There is a trial period. It is the first 30 days you can fire without reason. There is your trial period. It took me about 24 people to find 2. If you think it is so easy why not offer to hire for them? I have been burnt so many times hiring the ones that said the right things then don't follow through.

Very hard to find good staff, unfortunately. Been there, done that.

if you are an employer it is tiring, and time consuming to hire and find the good employee.  

I have tons of experience in a multitude of areas, customer service involved in all. Quick learner and self starter, in this town I have nothing but issues trying to find a decent job. I'd love to be able to walk in and "just get a job" that I wanted. I feel for the employers that get the talkers but at the same time get discouraged when thinner less qualified get hired over me. And yes looks have alot to do with some employers in this town, some of which I understand.

What is concedered a decent job in Brandon. Always interesting what people consider as decent or reasonable pay for x type of work.  
 

There isn't anything I can say that hasn't been said or won't be once this thread breaks off into the "RANT" phase...but I thought maybe I could quote the last few responses I received for a position I'm advertising...  
 
"my number is 222-2222...call me ASAP" (that was their email...no resume, nothing)  
 
"I have a car" (that's it...later they emailed "Hello?")  
 
"I'm interested in this position" (that's good...I'm happy for you)  
 
"I'm very interested in this job, can you tell me more" (Like what? what do you want me to respond with?)  
 
"I know your Ad says full time but I can only work evenings, will that work?" (Ad says 7am-4pm Monday to Friday)  
 
That's just one page i'm looking at in my inbox...literally 70% of my responses.

Depends on the job, experience the person applying has the list can go on. It isn't and shouldn't be cut and dry imo. As for decent that is obviously whatever the employee considers I'd guess. If someone has 10 yrs of flipping burgers, chances are they aren't going to think pumping poop would be decent for them? Just a guess as everyone's ideas and preferences are different.

the worst employee is the best fit for the company. You may be better but that is only a small part of the equation.

I know with the company I work for we only have 3 of us besides the employer and it can be very very hard to find skilled help. We have added more but they don't stick around too long because they don't like the hours or pay. Or they just are not skilled enough. The worst ones are the ones that know everything about the trade (but actually know nothing and takes a lot more time having to babysit them)

I guess you could say I was kinda like som of those people. I was hired for the job and 2 weeks later I was diagnosed with a health problem that would effect me having a job. But I did call and explained my health issue and it seemed to me that he understood. It has been 5 months since this happened and I still feel terrable about having to basically quit before I started. But I don't think it was a bad thing as he understood my medical issue and hope I would get better soon. I just feel so bad about ot. I hope he doesn't think that I changed my mind and quit. I am still waiting to go "back to work" but my health issues are still present and even effects my life in general.

would the percentage be that people really want to work. Their resumes say 'hard worker, willing to work' but they probably mean 'it's hard to work, willing to let others work'. A lot like that.  
They want the job then they complain for working but do want a pay cheque
